Review of Salt og Vind [12k1094]

Groove (DE)

Pjusk, now the solo project of Norwegian Jostein Gjelsvik, has worked with cold, space and geological time from the start. What in the beginning as a duo was still a fragile balance of harsh noise and delicate beautiful sound has been incorporated into relaxed ambient techno at a leisurely pedestrian pace on Salt og Vind (12K, February 25). Nordic dub that doesn’t have to sound remotely like dub, has lost the last trace elements of reggae – and doesn’t have to miss them. Because “salt and wind”, as the title translates, gives this walk into the great outdoors a unique, bitter Nordic taste.
