BYOC Kits
« on: August 06, 2012, 03:50:56 am »
Anyone here built any of the kits from BYOC (I'm guessing a few people must have) - http://www.buildyourownclone.com/ - and if so, what are your thoughts on materials quality, sound, stand out kits etc

The Analog Delay looks rather tasty...

Ryan Connor / sublamp has built quite a few, I think he did it from scratch but could probably still give you a few pointers mate.

The biggest problem for a DIY from scratch approach for the analog delay type effects (delay, chorus, flanger) is getting hold of the bucket-brigade devices, not that easy to source any more.

some BBDs of the MN3xxx series can be found at this german shop:
musikding.de

i ordered there before, it's a reliable shop. they also offer housings, knobs, alpha pots, jacks, switches (reads: everything you might need for diy pedals) and even complete kits.

might be an alternative for european fellows!

musikding is a good site. euro peeps can also get reasonably priced supplies from smallbear in the US.

tonepad is also good for pcbs of classic pedals. which reminds me, i have a Maestro FSH-1 that i need to debug...

Devi Ever is selling a diy stompbox hardware kit that looks like a huge time saver if you're building something from scratch. My least favorite part of building pedals is wiring up the pots/switches/LEDs/PCB. This thing has a pcb that will line up all the hardware perfectly with the pre drilled enclosure, plus a section for your circuit.
