Thanks :-)

I used the "macro for nature" setting for it (I think, did some different settings at the place).
My camera does very well with these kind of things (and it is exactly what I like...making pictures of small things)

WOW on chris friel !!! thanks for showing us that!

his work is right up my alley (just way better!)

need to start experimenting with long exposures.

hey.. maybe we can start some threads based on themes.... like, make a theme "long exposure"... sort of an assignment.. and everyone go out and experiment with long exposures.. and post in that thread...

or, someone can come up with some other theme, and then we can all work with that one..

and idea maybe?

themes like: repetition, red, motion, bright light, reflection.. etc..

and we can all interpret how we like..

might be fun...

themes might be nice, though for someone like me who just takes a picture so once in a while it isn't really something to follow with.

But would love to see how peoples different takes are on certain themes.

Thanks for this thread, I've really been enjoying all of the photos, and getting a lot of inspiration from them!

I bought my first SLR the other week, and I think I'm starting to understand some of the settings on it now... ;D I've had great fun just playing around with it though, I see a lot of correlations with sound engineering, in the sense that it is a marriage of art and science, I seem to be really attracted to that kind of thing. (Inner nerd coming out I suppose!)

Hopefully at some point I'll take something decent enough to share with you.  :)

I vote yes for the themes thread idea! Sounds fun. Also, I think having rules to push against makes it easier to be creative.

I shot these over the weekend, 35mm through a plastic Diana macro lens from Lomography.

nkl, I think you just introduced me to my new favorite photographer! Chris Friel's work is amaaaaaaazing! I like your version of it as well. Especially the first one.
I made a video a few years ago using a similar, controlled long exposure effect:
http://vimeo.com/375782

thanks buddy! your last two is great, specialy the last one.

i am so glad you (you and taylor) like this guy. i showed his work to others and they did not like it, or without response ???

for exif in his photos.. you must open the original photo in full resolution to see it. when he mentioned the "minimal editing", i think he is doing with these tools: channel mixer . selective color and probably color balance [color balance - if necessary, at the end of post-processing]. i am not shure 100 % (he does not respond to private messages) so... i tried with this tools that i mentioned, it can get close to or the same result when it comes to post-processing.

need to start experimenting with long exposures.

i know exactly how you feel :D

+1 for the themed photographs idea. Always good to have something to work with. I suspect it may induce a little competitive spirit on this thread!

hmmm.. maybe we can do entries then put up a poll... vote.. and the winner gets a free CD or something...

or.. keep it non-competitive...

while I was wandering around my house the last 3 minutes (since previous post to be precise)...what you could do is do this themed things and so once in a while do a competitive where you can win a free cd or something like that.

yes, agreed.. we don't want to turn every photo into a competition... we're here to foster creativity more than to have contests... but, perhaps once in a while...

So, should we start with the long exposure theme? I'm probably going to play with this technique over the weekend anyway.
You know, it would be kind of fun to also do an audio theme thread. Short one minute pieces based on a chosen theme.
