lots of love and praise for the software here. I use Audiomulch exclusively, both for composition and live purposes. Just amazing how much you can get form basically so "little" and the available sound deposits and structures the software offers surprise me every evening. I've been exploring it immensely for a year now and still keep discovering real sound stunners. Pretty much I can translate all my ideas into a mulch patch. On the other hand, starting form an empty rack and building up a patch during a set/practice with no particular aim in mind is also lots of fun. love it.

I just miss the ability to load more than 15 seconds samples in the granulator

and, according to Audiomulch site, there are great new features coming to Audiomulch in 2010, such as dynamics processing contraptions and new pattern editors. hopefully Ross decides on developing the uncertain and vague plans as well. i really look forward to an upgrade to drums contraption (stereo samples, multiple outputs). nice to see how the whole project ripens and the effort Ross puts into Audiomulch.

how do you audiomulch guys compose with it? is it a case of mixing down each 'project' to an audio file and editng in a DAW? or is there another way? (I am right in thinking you can't bring audiomulch into any DAW as a vst and compose there?)
because it does look/sound nice, but not sure how i'd fit it into my setup

I do everything inside Mulch. Depending on the project, I might mix down to individual tracks and do a final mix in something more straightforward for multitrack audio mixing (usually Reaper). But a lot of time I'll even do the final mix in Audiomulch, and any master post-processing in Sound Forge.

A typical project might look something like this:

Where I build up chains of audio/modules/plugins for each part and then do all my sequencing/triggering in the automation lanes. I don't ever do any MIDI sequencing, so this way actually works better to my way of thinking than any other DAW. You can place mixers anywhere in the signal chain, so you're able to automate an unrestricted number of inserts/sends.

thanks for the insight, phil.

if you ever care to share one of these files, please do! i'm sure we'd all love to see how it actually works moving along the timeline... i'm interested in this as well, as a way to compose outside of the traditional DAW/sequencing methods.

The only obstacle to sharing is the amount of audio files and VST plugins I use.

I have a few projects on the go now, one of which is a collection of tracks done entirely with the synth elements in Audiomulch. When v2 came out last year, I decided to reacquaint myself with all of the internal modules, as I tend to use a lot of external plugins. Thought the restriction of internal modules would be fun. Once I'm done with it, my intention is to release the project files as a kind of open source music. I'll be sure to post here about it when it's ready.

This thread's a good reminder to get back to it, I haven't touched the files in a few months.

I do have a bunch of example patches here, some of which are bits I made for the aforementioned project, but none are full-fledged pieces of music: http://www.sighup.ca/mulch/

interesting! so it is a kind of multi track/multi instrument environment in a way? can you control the automation in the lanes with a control surface ? via MIDI?   thanks for the info, am going to check out the audiomulch site a bit more

yep, you can control pretty much every parameter and record automation you apply with a MIDI controller.

Yeah, you can draw in the lines with a MIDI controller. With Version2, control has gotten a lot better, since you can now do things like automate clock and transport, and you can control the metasurface with MIDI.

The next update will have odd time signature support, which I was able to try out in early beta versions and is really nicely implemented.

sorry for quoting you as "phil" in my last post! got confused by embedded quotes!
