I guess this is more or less what you have in mind. very simple and undeveloped though. not much going on, microstoria like

to start punch in and immediately out square "in 2 out 2" on 4x4 matrix1
and then it goes by itself

That is indeed the kind of stuff I was talking about.
You can do really nice things with this.

It is nice with your patch to play with the Quantification of the Granluator.
If you would make a few of these all with different settings you can make nice melodic pieces from it ;)

I abandoned this project long time ago but seems like you encouraged me to further develop it. we'll see. thanks.
the folder with unfinished patches/project already hit 200. have to really dig into that. AM is very prolific.

I know exactly what you mean.
The last few years I almost never finished a track, just started something new all the time and saved that for some other time.
And now, well now I don't have time to make music. Now I have to publish a record on my label :p

yes, yes. these have-to's that don't let us hatch music and mangle sounds with bustling-with-options AM. sadly true :'(

but I'll try to post some more patches in following weeks. we'll be getting ready for a radio show so new set-ups might come up. or I'll take a look at the old ones and choose something form them.

I'm this close to breaking down and buying Audiomulch. I tried the demo awhile back and really loved it...but I'm torn between splurging on Max For Live and going the 'Mulch root. Anyone have an opinion?

my opinion: mulch

Why:
1) Cheaper
2) Don't need study a book before you can use it
3) It is just amazing to work with both in the studio and live

That's a tough one. If you're really comfortable in Live, and want to build your own effects/instruments,  Max for Live would make more sense since Mulch isn't made for low level building. But, if you feel stale with Live, and want to try a more free-form way of composing, Mulch is a good place to look. Mulch's work environment is a lot like dealing with a big open tabletop, it doesn't block you very often, but it also doesn't explicitly lead you anywhere.

Regarding the new update, some of the workflow changes are nice, little stuff like double-clicking on a contraption/plugin name in the list adds it into the patcher, where before you had to drag and drop. The dynamics modules are a big help if you just want to work with native contraptions and no plugins, I especially like the noisegate. And the time signatures add a lot of flexibility.

I'm surprised folk prefer the light skin, mind, burns holes in my retinas.

Hm. Thanks for the input. I'm not much of a patcher, honestly...which is my main hang up with M4L. While it comes bundled with some excellent pre-built content, I just don't feel like I'm going to be getting that much use out of its really "deep" potential. Also, I've been approaching composition from more of a structural sort of standpoint lately, which is another reason I'm eying up 'Mulch with such interest.

A lot to think about...

In that case, try the Mulch demo again. M4L, if not digging into its programming, is mostly going to be like using plugins, for which there are many alternatives out there (some cheaper, or even free).
