sheet music
« on: July 19, 2011, 01:05:41 pm »
Hoy, so I've been honoring my early classical training as of late and writing more music. Some of it on napkins and other bits on proper sheets. But I'm thinking there probably is a much more efficient way to go about it nowadays.

I'm not even using a DAW yet, so bear with me! I know I'll be recording in a studio that runs with Cubase pretty soon though.

Anywho, there must be an option with MIDI protocol to transfer something you play on a keyboard, drum machine, etc. straight onto sheet music right? A plug in of some sort maybe, or a DAW that does it for you?

Pro Tools and Sibelius can do that...You can send sheet music form Sibelius to pro tools that it will transform to midi and the opposite.

Also i think that Logic has something similar but i am not really sure how works.

i think most modern DAWs will handle that task.. Digital Performer (my tool) has had a notation section for many years... i've just never opened it up before.. so i'm not sure what it's capable of.

you might want to contact the studio that uses Cubase and ask them if cubase can do it... if they don't know the answer, tell them to look it up in the manual for you...

in Logic it just depends on which view ("piano roll" / "score") you choose for your MIDI material.  It's pretty good.

I checked the Cubase manual, the option is definitely in there and with little fiddling I should be able to handle it.

Thanks.
