Yeah, we probably won't see another mass physical format, that much is true. And when we're speaking of novelty products, it sticks and caters to the few in the know or at best it's a trend for a little while.
But these niches and fads can very much pop up and thrive for a bit before fading out, and whoever taps into them may see a little spike in revenues for a while. Not sure I'd like to be the one backing up the R&D for those however, it's very much a gamble and the demand for it is not intuitive, you best pray that your marketing targets the right folks or hipsters fall in love with it...
I think there are other ways to be imaginative with your product offer without getting that gimmicky.
