Vox Dynamic Looper
« on: January 16, 2011, 06:54:27 pm »
http://www.voxamps.com/pedals/vdl1/

Looking beyond the 'one man and his multi-effects songwriting tool' marketing spiel, this could actually be a pretty neat (and powerful) stompbox - the ability to have two independent loops running at once and (uniquely for any pedal looper), loop resampling sells it to me...

yeah, this one looks pretty nice, too... definitely more of a looper than the strymon timeline..

got some new choices coming up!

I'll be the first to say that it looks cheap and it is ugly from a design point. However, books and covers...

i've actually taken a shine to this one more so than the strymon... the strymon seems like a superior DELAY box.. but from a looper point of view, the Vox does something i haven't seen any other looper do yet, which is give you the ability to record effects into your loop and record loop manipulations right into it as well... i can see a LOT of fun potential with this.

I've never been that bothered by what a pedal looks like - they inevitably end up getting scuffed, scratched & covered in dirt/beer/dust anyway!

It is ugly. but nothing a dremel tool couldn't fix. I'd blast that thing down to the aluminum and relabel. Too much plastic on that Vox for anything like that.

That's quite a wordy review  ;D

I'm saving my beans for a EH 2880.
Been rocking a DL4 since forever and want something more.

My overall verdict is that I'm not keen on it.

The review written by Andy Butler which I posted earlier pretty much nails what is good and bad about the pedal.

My main criticism is that there is obvious noise introduced into the loop when in overdub mode.  That and a lack of feedback control renders the pedal pretty useless for the type of music I (and the majority of people on this board) make.

The loop effects and resampling mode are great features to see on a pedal of this price range, but the implementation is really clunky.  For instance, the position of the expression pedal is active as soon as you switch to that effect.  This could lead to all sorts of problems if you're not expecting it!

Anyway, the conclusion is that i'm returning mine...
