me personally as well as the band stay away from facebook. just never got convinced by the concept and the whole things is somewhat crude. we'll see how Diaspora will work out once it's lunched.

As an FYI

Don't rely on it too much, I had a personal facebook account and an artist page on there. Some hater reported me to facebook for allegedly 'using a fake name'. (Sam instead of the full Samuel,  :o THE HUMANITY!!!)

Anyway, long story short, facebook automatically shut down my personal and artist page upon those allegations, which after 6 weeks of e-mails with no reply whatsoever, I decided to give up. There's something incredibly gestapo-ish about the whole ordeal, and considering my artist page had about 100-ish followers, it's not the end of the world. But for someone who would rely solely on it to reach a bigger fan base that could be catastrophic almost.

So yeah, just to let you know.

That's crazy!

I'm not really a big fan of Facebook but there are some cool people I have as friends on there that make it worthwhile to hold an account.

Peter Frampton's people had my old band kicked off of Myspace when we jokingly changed our band name to Peter Frampton for a hot minute.

I wouldn't put too much stock into Facebook. A few hundred followers doesn't always equate to a few hundred fans.

yeah, exactly, a lot of those people were friends and collaborators and so on

i definitely took it in stride and didn't make too much of the whole ordeal personally

but i'm thinking if the same thing was to happen with someone who has a bigger fanbase it could definitely be an inconvenience. We easily come to rely on whatever communication platform has an easiness to it, facebook definitely IS that, can't deny it. But if it's to be taken away from you so easily, it's good to have a back up plan, or at least not to have all your eggs in that basket.

I think what's working for me the most, is twitter and soundcloud, plus a website for in depth info.  I just don't have much time to keep the other stuff up to date and I'm not sure it's worth it either.

When I get a chance, I may setup a facebook/myspace page that points to my my site but on the other hand .....
