I would say this is "highly desirable" - I guess I'd really have to hear it first ("visual only demo"), but the whole thing looks so sharp that the probably aren't gonna cheap out on the audio side.

i'm hoping for a little "low-tech".. but, we'll see... the addition of the audio loopers is massive for me.. this may be one of those buy-it-as-soon-it-comes-out pieces... buy before you try...

just looks so damn cool

yeah at the right price point I'll buy this w/out thinking twice.  I'd be keen on some lo-fi-ness, I'm just wondering what end of "Casio" it's gonna end up at!

oh, that piece of equipment got me awake, running and drooling. looks like a fancy must-have. even the "what will be the damage to my billfold" thoughts got blurred  for a second. the company is from Sweden so the price shouldn't be +20% for Europe. certainly intriguing.

  must...resist...more....gear....

I get this when I look at my gear wish list (that just expanded ;) ). Do you have them as well or is it just me?

Synthtopia has the price point around ~$700...but they also have a full features list posted up. Take a look: http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2010/01/15/teenage-engineering-op-1-off-the-vaporware-list-is-awesome-pricey-and-a-work-in-progress/. Yum!

considering I got my virus for less than $600 after shipping this is a bit steep for me to lay out on a cute lil thang whose use in my work is TBD

Agreed...though we'll see how this thing evolves. The OS is still under development, so you never know how powerful the end product may really be!

I'd be comfortable with them shedding some features to get the price down. If they dropped the built-in mic, speaker and radio receiver, I wonder how much they could reduce costs?

agree on all 3 of those drops. built in mic *could* be fun, the other 2 i would absolutely drop.

i think that the radio receiver is part of a bigger plan.
the had mentioned the ability to sync multiple op-1s together wirelessly, so it could likely serve more of a purpose than just sampling fun. also, i think i would be more interested in the FM radio if it could be tuned analog style (instead of digital / seek style) it could be great for grabbing little bits of that between-station crackle.

the tape function looks like it could be pretty great.
