so anne has gotten in a habit of throwing a Robert Burns party every year.  this year we are making a "vegan haggis" and leek stew, to be accompanied by:

Balvenie Double Wood (I highly recommend this for the price)
Clynelish 14

and whatever everyone else brings along...

to this thread I can only leave a piece of advice:

at all cost refrain from washing whiskey down with a glass of warm, plain gin. even if there's nothing else do drink in the house and your mouth is bone dry. unless you want to form a romantic attachment with your toilet bowl for a dozen or so hours...

Living in the cradle of bourbon (Kentucky), I've been very fortunate enough to accumulate a nice variety. My absolute favorite HAS to be Pappy Van Winkle 20 year Bourbon. I think I came close to tears when trying that bad boy. Booker's and Baker's are also very very nice. Strong, but nice.

Aside from the bourbons, I've got a bottle of Lagavulin 16, a bottle of Balvenie 17 year and some Johnnie Walker Green.

yeah I've had the Pappy Van Winkle 20 rec'd to me a few times.  never had a taste but I'm quite enamored of that 12 yr I have so an upgrade is only cause for celebration.

Bookers/Bakers are kinda the top of what an average bar will have unless they are special/smart about it, so I've definitely had those a few times and they do bite ya.

I think everything the Van Winkle brand has is just magic gold. I purchased a bottle of 20 yr when I found out my wife was pregnant as cause for (my own) celebration. It's worth it. Do something good lately? Buy yourself a bottle. Hell, even if you haven't...buy a bottle and just wait to do something good.

the only excuse I really need for a new bottle is "hey my old one done got empty."  a similar reason to why I've never really been into drinking games.

mcclellands highland single malt was given to me last week as a gift, and for a mid-price malt it's very good.  i've had the lowaland ages ago and thought it too was decent, so might see if their islay is any good.
