did anyone read that horrendous wire review of small craft on a milk sea? i haven't heard the album, but i really detest over the top negative reviews. some things are better left unsaid.

i thought it was a waste of time. the writer could better have spend some time on reviewing something else (for example the promos I have send to the wire) instead of acting a douche all the way.

and I actually didn't even find if funny.

read the review last night.
to be fair to penman, he seemed more exasperated with the album than anything else.
there's obviously a lot of respect there.
funnily enough, it really made me want to hear it too.

he's right about eno not doing anything good since the 70s though.
I think the arty press in the UK are always too quick to hold him up as some sort of leftfield icon though, which is tiresome, as there's so many more interesting artists out there.

Not sure what you would call The Wire, but to me they are an excellent example of pretentious arty peeps.
(honestly, I do not really consider it as a really good magazine. It has its moments, but a lot of times they seem to loose their way into hypeforming and trying to sound pretty elitist at the same time)

I meant the newspapers, like the Guardian etc.
the kind of journos whose idea of leftfield is listening to a franz ferdinand 7".
the wire isn't perfect but there aren't many other hardcopy mags out there that cover so many niche sounds.

Ideed, not perfect, but for me, the Wire stands for well written in-debt articles and honest reviews. I couldn't do without it.

Of course it isn't bad, that's not what I want to say. But there are things I prefer above the Wire.
And a review like this is one of the reasons.

It's a shame you can't change the title of a thread half way through, this should be called "what do you think of the wire?"  Actually, I might start that thread now.

I meant to add, all the recent Eno bashing has made me curious about the new album.

Also I don't agree that he hasn't done anything decent since the 70s.  I haven't listened to all of it by any means but the only album i realy disliked was Neroli.

Also I'm not sure there are many artists out there that are as interesting as him.  The sheer variety of his work is difficult to match for one thing.
