Wixel - Slaapliedjes
Lawrence English - Japan live tape
Mat Riviere - Follow Your Heart
Jim O'Rourke - I'm Happy and I'm Singing and a 1 2 3 4 (reissue)
Pillowdiver - Sleeping Pills

The Pillowdiver, (even though I only got it at christmas), is pretty much the perfect album of 2009.

well don't get me wrong, cause I thought it was OK (like the other releases I mentioned) but I expected it to be much more after all the raving, highly overrated, reviews. Some pieces are really great, but others are also really boring, not even to speak about the big smell of cheese that arises from others...
His work as the Caretaker is so much more interesting and nicer (though darker) to listen to).

Yeah, I've listened to samples of this release and some of his Caretaker stuff as well, just can't seem to get into it... I think I just prefer the vibe of Basinski, Gas or Jeck when it comes to this type of sound.

I actually really, really love his work as the Caretaker. A lot of that material is just breathtaking...but this just misses the mark completely. There are glimmers sure, but it's that cheese smell you mentioned that really pervades everything. People who are raving about this box clearly don't listen to much music in this vein!

i definitely prefer his work as the caretaker.  the leyland kirby album had a lot to live up to, could have done without the hype.  plus with such a big amount of material released at once, there's going to be a range in quality.
