Lately

Obsessed with the latest Bonnie Prince Billy Wolfroy Goes to Town (Drag City, 2011). I used to be a great admirer of the man, but kinda let it go around 2007, when he started releasing tons of live material and I got tired of all my folk/country/americana records. I gave this album a try and thought it was superb. Perfect "by the fireplace" record. The recording just suits the songs so well to me : beautiful tone, perfect source distance and a warm yet delicate presence. Also dug out my "Ask Forgiveness" EP, made out of covers (R Kelly, Sinatra, Bjork, etc.).

I loved BPB's earlier stuff, especially Arise, Therefore and I See A Darkness but his more recent stuff hasn't done anything for me - going to give this one a try.

I'm now listening to Melt Banana - Speak, Squeak, Creak

I'm not a huge BPB/Will Oldham fan but I do love 'I See A Darknes'. just a great great album.

Nigeria 70: Lagos Jump
70's Afro-funk/soul/rock and about anything else you can put afro in front of. Strong release in a sea of afro comps.

+
christina vantzou - no. 1   ....beauty one

maps & diagrams - lights will call on you   ....enjoying a lot their new ambient-ish side

pd: a little bit disappointed with the latest raster-noton lp´s (byetone + senking)

oneohtrix point never - replica

^ hmmm, not sure about this one.  read lots about the new direction of this lp so was expecting something different from his usual juno explorations, but i think i miss the arps and drones.  three fantastic tracks, the rest don't do much for me at all.

it was up at soundcloud and I thought it was still too much arps (i have a hard time listening to those).
But I thought the rest was boring as well.

Guess it is just not for me.

Oneothrix Point Never - Replica
First listen... and quite enjoing the new, more playful direction...

Köhn - Random Patterns
Saw this perform live... very charismatic and hypnotising

Group Inarane - Guitars from Agadez volume 3
Also after seeing 'em live... great stuff. Maybe not as fantastic as Group Doueh, though.

Clive Martinez - Drive o.s.t.
Fantastic film, fantastic soundtrack

have been on a really nice concert yesterday:
touchy mob (kind of kompakt-minimal techno blended with guitar/folk/singersongwriter) and as support tellavision (livelooping girl, but what a voice!). so i got their CDs:

touchy mob - atlantic back
tellavision - we love the omniscien narrator
tellavision - music on canvas

if they come around, i highly recommend seeing them.

i've had the string machine II cd featuring Stephan Mathieu, Eamonn Doyle, David Donohoe, Leopold Hurt, and Donal Lunny on repeat the last while. really great work.
