hey a new Kate Carr album...got to check that out.
Where was it released?

Today I listened to Matt Christensen - A Cradle In The Bowery
Zola Jesus - Stridulum II
Friedrich Goldmann - Late Works (which came with the wire some issues ago).

Fire! - You Liked Me Five Minutes Ago (Rune Grammofon, 2009)
Grails - The Burden of Hope (Neurot, 2003)
Rob Mazurek - Sound Is (Delmark, 2009)

The Fire! album is really good free jazz music surprinsingly laying the emphasis on melodies
The Burden of Hope is the first Grails record and is still my favorite. They have a song (not on this album though) called Erosion Blues which describes perfectly what their music is.

Battles - Gloss Drop
Much better then I expected... and I'm glad it doesn't have those weird midget-vocals that irritated me on Mirrors....

At first, I disliked it very much, and now it's growing on me. Battles definitely have a unique thing, they really are digging their sound, but at the same time, it is very exhausting to listen to this album from the beginning to the end.

Liturgy - Aesthetica (Thrill Jockey, 2011)
Contemporary black metal from Brooklyn. They received a lot of hate on the internet, and a lot of hype too. But I'm really getting into their music, great composition work, extreme, clever and heartful.

Great album, one of the few "black metal" things I really do enjoy.
And live also really a thing to go see.

Now I am listening to another "black metal" piece that I also like a lot.
Body Odour - Untitled from the Split CD-R with The Polka Dot Sunflower Bed Orchestra that came out on Digitalis Foxglove somewhere in 2007.
This is some pretty massive stuff, intense, loud, and layered like a crazy. Loads of drones and such.
Shame this is the only thing they ever did (as far as I know).

Waking up with
Gregg Kowalsky - Battery Townsley (Senufo Editions, 2011)
Good stuff again. This guy does some great work.

Used to be one of my favorite albums for jogging, but even by itself I really dig that stuff.

I also really like the few things I heard from Kowalsky but haven't heard this one yet.

Moving on.
Yesterday while driving back home from a long wk-end away in the country, flipping the radio channels I stumbled upon Kraftwerk - Autobahn just as I was hitting the freeway, appropriate!

Apart from that I've been discovering a few more mainstream things with a girl friend lately and it can be refreshing. One of the things she listens to I find quite pleasing is Patrick Watson.

This is the one that did it for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3aD5alrJ78&feature=related
Reminds me of Jon Brion, Bon Iver, Elliott Smith, etc. but with a lightness to it and such flowing arrangements and choice of instrumentation.

C-Schultz & Hajsch (cd on Sonig)

Autechre - Confield

Also saw Amon Tobin live a few days back. Immense audio-visual spectacle. Wow!
