Seth Nehil - Furl (Sonoris, 2010)

Since I stopped writing for EARLabs I don't really get to hear so much of this kind of music anymore.
Think it is quite a shame, because I find a lot of these things really intriguing.
Should maybe check out all the new Dragon's Eye Recordings releases. Always nice stuff to listen to.

V. Sjoberg New Jazz Ensemble - Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me (Ideal, 2008)
I should try his other works.

Billy, how's that Lambkin/Lescalleet album? A bit like Breadwinner?

Listening:

Shackleton - Three EPs

Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians

Clint Mansell - Moon o.s.t.

well, a bit.  just as mysterious and engrossing, i think a greater sense of "emptyness" (whereas on Breadwinner the unoccupied space was very much amplified to gritty detail).  it's lovely.

Today-

Erik K Skodvin - Flare (Sonic Pieces, 2010) - A true beauty.
Maserati - Pyramids of the Sun (Temporary Residence, 2010) featuring Steve Moore and the late Jerry Fuchs on drums.
Julie Christmas - The Bad Wife (2010) - Not that far from Battle of Mice, a little bit less cold. Good.

and some Jordi Savall, Dirty Three, Murralin Lane and The Shangri-Las.

could be.. i'm only going by the iTunesrelease date.. which was october 20th of this year.. 6 days ago... but, for sure itunes could be behind the ball on this.. and i don't keep up with thrill jockey much to know the true release date...

nice 38 mins though!

the new Mountains.. "Etching" ... bought it on iTunes last night...
New Mountains? Isn't that the live LP from last year (on Thirll Jockey) or did I miss out on something? If so, gonna do some digital crate digging.
Ok thanks,.
Just looked it up at the Thrill Jockey website and it is indeed the live LP from last year, which is indeed a lovely piece.

EDIT: oops answered already.

Today so far:
Kallabris - The Standard of a Fly (Entr'acte, 2010)
John Cale - Sun Blindness Music (Table Of The Elements, 2001)
Phill Niblock - Touch Food (Touch, 2003)

Really making a big dive into classical drone music. Yesterday ordered Triology de la morte by Eliane Radigue and The Electronic Harpsichord by C. C. Hennix. And think I should really get me some LaMonte Young and Tony Conrad soon (only have Conrad's Bryant's Park Memorial).
If anyone has some more useful recommendations in this field feel welcome.

Here's a few of my Drone favourites. All different approaches, but I'd highly recommend em all..
Alan Lamb - Primal Image
Charlemagne Palestine - Godbear
Ellen Fullman - Body Music
Henry Flynt - You are my Everlovin'
Richard Lainhart - Ten Thousand Shades of Blue

(Caprice, 1995)
An amazing compilation with traditional music from the rural country of Sweden. Loads of kulning and such on it.
Recommended.

what are your thoughts on this one?
this was one of my most anticipated albums this year, but apart from a couple of very good tracks, i find it quite underwhelming.. and i'm a huge fan.  maybe due to my heightened expectation, but i'm just not blown away by this like i have been by their previous stuff.

right now:

black dog - spanners

I've had a bunch of Belong, Xela, Tim Hecker and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma records on repeat pretty much all week. A heavy headspace, but so, so, so good!

oh I totally dig it.  I was expecting something a little different form the last major album (which still spins regularly), and the band delivered.  there is one dodgy sax solo tho...
