It goes with out saying that I'll need to do a lot more field research before I can adequately contribute to this thread but here's a bit of info to be going on with.

This is one of my favourite pubs in London, a traditional but friendly place, not too far from Tate Modern.  Only open during the week unfortunately but does have a beer garden.

They serve a full range of "Shepherd Neame" ales from Kent, which make them pretty unique in London at least.

last week i read about a smoke porter from the Alaskan Brewing Co. i had to find it so i tracked down some on the internet via Idaho... while shopping at that online place i also managed to find the Stone Black IPA... as well as another Porter i've never tried and this 12-pack of small bottles of "Session Black".. they look cool...

anyway, shipment came in today.. fun times ahead!

Recently had some lovely beers from the new Coppice Side Brewery, Heanor, Derbyshire (UK), a micro-brewery run by Chris Turner. Scary Crow (5.0%) is a good pale ale and the latest one is Nottingham Blonde (4.0%). Good to see a small local venture doing well.

i've a bottle of tactical nuclear penguin waiting for me at home since Christmas. i can imagine it tasting a bit on the strong side...(40% abv, yes 40!)

Quote
This is an extremely strong beer, it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. In exactly the same manner that you would enjoy a fine whisky, a Frank Zappa album or a visit from a friendly yet anxious ghost.

i'm happy to announce that starting this week i'll be brewing my very first batch of beer at home!

of course, it'll probably come out like shit... but, got to start somewhere! i bought the gear and will be working from a recipe pack. if all goes well (technically) i'll move up to sourcing my own recipe for batch number 2.. and then maybe moving up to a double-fermentation process so i can do a porter.

wish me luck! and i'll have 50 crappy bottles of beer if anyone wants to come over and have some!
