Boss RC-20 XL Loop Station
« on: April 12, 2010, 02:11:07 pm »
Hey,

Anyone had much luck with this loop pedal http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/RC-20XL/ I'm looking to add to my collection (although I've only just started) but would love to hear any suggestions and thoughts on it. If I remember rightly Cameron Webb (Seaworthy) uses this looper but not 100% sure? ..

Cheers.
R

Was in a band where the bass player used one heavily...there was a small learning curve but he graduated to master in no time. Fun pedal...

Hey man, I'm just getting into the looper pedal territory having used only Ableton Live previously albeit an amazing platform for creating loops on the fly I just want to start composing outside the traditional DAW. I've just purchased an Electro Harmonix memory man w/hazarai and this may be the next purchase I think. Thanks for the reply :)

I didn't know that the rc20xl was click and popper. Good to know.

Been stepping on a DL4 since it first came out. A true workhorse and very popular.

Anne has a DL4 and the one thing that bugs me about it is that the footswitches audibly click.  it sounds fine and, really, everyone has one, but if I were to invest in a pedal with these kinds of features, I'd rather have silent switching.

..the dl4 is smooth compared with the hazarai.....the ehx is a headache when recording with mics...the "clicking" switches are everywhere.

other great loop/delay option is the eventide timefactor...you can set start/end looping points in realtime and get a kida of stuttering-chopping effect...expensive but :(

best,

pug

Picking up what you are putting down.

Yep, my rc-20 is a clicker (not sure about the newer versions though).
I am really happy with the dl4 and the (bit pricier http://www.ehx.com/products/2880).
That said, if you can afford to spend more money, I'd also would take a look into the eventide timefactor - I only hear good things about it. http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/TimeFactor.aspx

hi
you only have a simple delay section when using the looper, not all the onboard programs from the dl4
you can also use the modulation/repeat/tweek/tweez settings on sampling mode, and record loops with these settings

...with the hazarai you can use other programs with the looper.

best,
pug

Hi,

One question: is it possible on the jamman to enter the correct amount of BPM? because I always have trouble with my BOSS because I can't feed it with the exact BPM number. I mean something like a digital display to clearly set BPM to a certain level.
Thanks :)

there was a successor being showed at the namm. http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=1160&ParentId=251

the trend to use lightened rubber buttons discomforts me.

You can just load in a silent .wav file. say like 4 bars of 120. then you know it will be in sync.
