that's a crazzy case.  When I was building stuff ages ago you couldn't get anything like that, just boring old black plastic!

hey billy,
do you know how the new kit compares with the version you built?  like what changed or what is new?
just wondering.

hey billy,

the new kit is, with one exception, very much improved in every way.  The exception (and one of the main reasons for me going in on the first iteration) is the filter.  Olivier stopped production on the model I have b/c he could not reasonably acquire more of the vintage analog filter chips used on the Shruti.

Basically - the PCBs are redesigned to stack neatly on top of each other, making for a much smaller, more secure package.  A lot of really cool new functions have been added to the OS, new arpeggiator patterns, the ability to chain these guys together for polyphony, just good stuff all around.  I think you will be able to purchase the entire kit + case as well.

i actually managed to damage one of the PCBs on my Shruti so it's been out of commission until I can get a replacement.  fucking sad face, there.   :'(

but yeah, I'm saving up for this model too....

you could always just order the CEM board and grab a 3379 off ebay. i think i'm going to do that and try out the SSM filter design.

...hi billy ;D!

so yeah...how's yr shruti treating you?

missin mine seriously but it's easier to wait for Olivier to just order a bunch of PCBs than cash out on one...

yeah it's fun alright. haven't had a chance to do much of late with it. i've started a night course in electronic engineering though, pretty much because of all the synthy diy i've been messing with the last few years. so that's cool! i've far less time for knob twiddling however...

i finally got round to finishing this. it's a big improvement sound wise, with all of the high pitched noise smoothed out. lots of extra functionality and some really quite impressive sequencer stuff (philip glass mode anyone?).

unfortunately, there is an extra layer of menus now attached to each button (sometimes 3-5 menus per button). so menu diving is a bit annoying, but not the worst i've encountered.

overall a pretty cool update on the shruti.

yeah the menus are still my big gripe.  I made a lil touchOSC/Max thing (which you probs saw months ago on the mutable board) to get around everything except the modulation and keyboard menu trees, but those are still a lot of fiddling - especially live.

I'm still really happy with my Shruti, but am very, very tempted to get this one as well - general design improvements always work for me!

there is a breakout diy kit in the works that will have a knob for all 32 parameters...

noob-like question - would a Shruthi 1 play nicely with my Doepfer Dark Energy as a sequencer? obviously, I've had the DE less than a week, but I don't want it to get lonely  ;D

you can run stuff from the sequencer alright, i've never tried it however...

food for thought indeed... slightly terrified by the relative complexity of the build, so will wait until I have a few successful analogue projects under my belt before maybe trying of these. but it looks very interesting... for some reason, more attractive  than the DSI synths (which is probably illogical)

you've just given me an idea to build a max patch that takes that incoming note data and builds chords and related notes from the sequencer note stream...
