i have a "tons" plugins-effects-vsti... and i can not make anything interesting, at least it sounds ok. I have an incredible inner need to express myself through music. result (mostly at the end is frustration. :(

there was time i wanted to try out and use every single one of the dozens plug-ins that are out there. turned out i was just scrolling through the list and never completed anything or the output was spasmodic rubbish. so i removed all the plugs, zipped them and stored on a backup drive. was truly liberating act. now i pick one every once i a while and build a project around it. take time, explore, see if it'll be of any use for me. than it might make the list, which is limited to two plugs at the moment. thus can focus on working on the track and not pondering which of my many great plugs i could/should/would/might/am to use.

it was mentioned a few times on the forum and it looks like it comes up again. not saying it's your case but abundance of gear/soft might negatively influence your creativity and causes frustration. cross the stream where it's the shallowest...(and dump the heavy load before you enter it)

yet i'm glad that this thread developed and places like www.kvraudio.com exist. it's great to see so many people coming with so many ideas for plugs. some of them really well done with spectacular possibilities.

how much time you need for only one track?

sometimes an hour sometimes a month or more.

do you processing every instrument?

to process or not to process. that is the question  :)

again, no principle here for me. our projects usually involve a few instruments. not all of them are processed. but than, the end signal might get heavily processed. there are so many scenarios possible. i guess in case you have a solid number of instruments, processing all them and still keeping a nice, clean mix is a challenge. an approach to use less instruments and diversify their output, tinker with them, create room for play and possibility to model the instrument during a live performance proved better for us than amassing an armada of instruments and engineer them into a track. the latter it's certainly achievable, yet requires likely years of experience and talent and skills. and time i guess. wish i could do that. hopeful it'll come with practice.

Smart Electronix plugins are always fun, such a shame they aren't really updated anymore :(
Would love to see some new works from these different guys but haven't seen any thing new the last 4 or 5 years.

been using shortcircuit V.1 a while now, a great simple sampler. with reaper i can drag and drop files right into it which are straight mapped to my controller, a fun and easy way to do this

also the filters inside are great, even though i just started using

Does anybody know a decent Freeze plugin? I like the GRM freeze, anyway, it doesn't run on my audiomulch, anyhow.

Thanks, answers are much appreciated.

even though mac touched on this.. i'm just going to +1 his reply.... what he said is all very very important...

the best thing you can do is rid yourself of those VSTs. if you're having trouble writing music, adding MORE isn't going to help...

do what mac said... file it all away and start with very little. you will be more creative that way.

this is absolutely true!!!!

For me GRM tools are really buggy, at least for my system. Do you have Max/MSP or Max for Live? There are so many decent freeze plugins out there for Max or Max4Live

Thank you for your answers. Totally dig this quote from Mac since I can really see his point.
Do you guys use more analogue or hardware effects?

No, I use Audiomulch for writing and performing. The GRM only works on my Cubase which I do not use for performing. GRM is buggy, I like the Reson and Shuffling Tools though.

for me it really depends on the situation. if i am creating with my pedal setup.. well, that's mostly hardware. also, with other studio situations, mostly making sounds or recording with my hardware synths, i'll usually turn to my Eventide hardware units.

but, when sitting down composing and editing songs at the computer i'll put out plug ins on sounds that are already recorded.

best of both worlds, i suppose!

Do you guys use more analogue or hardware effects?

No hardware stuff for me, only plug ins. I have/use a UAD quad loaded with some plug ins, WAVES and some iZOTOPE plug ins and that's it.

Quality hardware stuff are really expensive for example i think that Taylor has a Manley massive passive stereo EQ which is maybe one of the best hardware EQs out there but to tell you the truth i don't find any big difference between the hardware unit and UAD's same plug in.
