I ended up getting myself a R-26.
Here is a cool recording I did with it:

cool, it reminds me of a Collin Olan release – Rec01 (Apestaartje).

post more samples of the r-26, please. especially recorded with external mics.

i just upgraded to sony pcm d50 + a denecke ps2 phantom power unit for the xlrs . i decided to get it after researching a few different xlr units. Following atricle at Rene Coronado's blog as well as e-mailing with a few other users of such setup convinced me to go ahead with denecke. no doubt best price to quality raito. worth a look for everybody with d50 but no xlrs yet.

http://thesoundmyheadmakes.blogspot.com/2011/03/quickie-shootout-744t-vs-pcm-d50-with.html

it arrived yesterday and i haven't had much time to play with it but the first recordings are pretty impressive in comparison to zoom h4n. seems like a great purchase.

I need a new one, zoom is way too noisy.. the R26 came to my mind. anyone has a killer argument for buying it? :)

Thx, Marc

I would suggest saving up for really good preamp to put in front of your zoom.

I am saving up for a Sound Devices Mixpre now to use in front of my r-26 =)

For Sound Devices (and other pro gear), keep an eye on Trew Audio's consignment page. There's a few 2nd hand Sound Devices there now:

Thanks for the tip (Kristian) and the website (Stephen). Nonetheless, I bought it, I simply needed to. Got a new one for 350 bucks (rest sale).. I used to have a nice preamp.. not weatherproof though.. Guess I need to save up for smth else as well.

Yup, I second that. I own an AETA Mixy (3-input portable pro mixer with usb port), expensive gear but the sound quality is flawless and warm, and routing possibilities are almost endless.

Hi!

I'm going to Malaysia and Borneo this summer for a month of adventures. I'm thinking of producing some kind of sound-diary. Currently I own a Zoom H2 but i think it's so noisy and it would be great if there were something more water resistance. Any suggestions?  ;)
