This is an amazing line up. I second Marcus, really wish I could be there and wish you all the best, and come to London to do more shows, or Canada in March :)

Maybe if I wish hard enough a G2 will find its way under my pillow. :)

I really enjoyed working with the FM patch today, and am certainly going to do more with these over the coming weeks.

Enjoyed your Xpander patch today too, and also the older Nord patch, reminded me of a few of your older releases…good stuff.

This was really, really good.

It was so nice to hear some views I share in that program. I was worried for a moment it was gong to be a sort of 'everyone should share for free' type of program, but was pleased to hear it developed into the concerns of creative mediocrity and a worrying possibility of a ”creative dark ages“, something I have genuine concerns of.

There was so much in this program, really great.

Certainly will be buying some books mentioned in that program too.

Really great find, thanks for sharing it.

I thought I would share a find, lots of Nord Modular patches that include a working link to the DX7 sounds and the 32 algorithms, really great find, very pleased.

http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/011_Patches/FM_for_Xmas/

Also spotted in the main directory a few patches by none other than Mr Deupree, not sure if this is actually yours or someone else?

http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/011_Patches/

I used algorithm 32 in todays upload, it is a simplest of them all I think. 6 operators, the 6th having a feedback.

Hope it is of some use to you all :)

I spotted this today coincidentally after having a dream about owning a DX7.

http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~clark/nordmodularbook/fmtonordmodular.htm

I also found out that sounds created to run by themselves are called 'Noodles' ???

There is a whole load of useful instructions/patches at this site, some looking very scary indeed.

Managed to get a nice rattling texture today with the Nord upload, that I am pretty pleased with.

It was kind of by accident, well no it 'was' by accident, but then I dialed it in best I could, once I worked out what the hell was going on.

I found out by overdriving one patch into another just a little bit and the eq-ing/balancing out the gritty bits, works quite nicely for textures.

It kind of does it 3/4 times in the upload, so about every minute or so.

Might have another go at it tomorrow.

how did you do that wooden percussion sound?

Glad you like it. I reworked a patch I ended up not using as much for a release, that was sort of emulating the clicking sound of when the record button is pressed on the Sony PCM-D50 while heard through the recording. And I also liked the snow melting one I did as Snd 36, and thought to go somewhere similar with this one. It kinda reminds me of those Japanese water fountains, Shishi Odoshi (looked it up), although it sounds very different but thinking to have a bash at starting from there sometime soon.

It is basically the Random Pulse Generator, ran through a envelope to soften the start and then through the Phaser1 module to duck out certain frequencies in the pulse and to feedback others, thats where that hollow wooden sound comes from. At least from memory. :)

Yeah I think I know the recording you are talking about, if it is one of your sound a day I have definitely heard it.
It reminds me of a recording I have somewhere of a drip on a nearby leaf, but like you say this is very wooden.

I found out something by mistake that is probably pretty obvious to most, but somehow I missed it.

When assigning a range to a morph depending which direction you create that range defines if the morph dial controls the sounds from 0-127 or 127-0.

I kept wanting to do this when trying to emulate a pulsar synthesis technique, but never looked it up.

As I always say, but often forget to do myself, it pays to read the manual :)

I spotted this guys work a little while ago, amazing framing and colour, I really like it.

I thought I would share it here as I am sure some of you will like it also.

Hi all

Not sure how to open these Nord files again. The one I posted above is from the G1, so sorry for any confusion, I should have mentioned that…of course if anyone would like to donate me a G2, I could avoid this problem in the future :p

Anyway, for those who have the G2 or can't get this loaded in their G! (included me) and would like to see this, Taylor suggested to post a screen grab, good idea too.

I can never work out how to upload pictures or files on the forum, so what I thought was to put the patch and screen grab in a zip at an address to download. (links at the bottom)

In the grab I have tried to keep the connectors as clear as I can, but as you can hopefully see much of it is just repeats, with the LFO phase being the only thing that differs. It is then all the audio is linked between, save having lots more cords running across the patch.

So it's audio on the far left, next row is the phase shift for each grain, third/fourth rows is where the envelope takes from the LFO, the assigned morph pans and random pan postions also taken from the LFOs, then they are all mixed together, probably could have used a bigger mixer but tried to keep them in blocks…kinda.

I assigned the pan, and rate of LFO, so you can get those annoyingly over the top granular effects. More a fan of the slower styled granular, but there it is anyway, and it sort of shows it works I guess.

If anyone can see some faults, as I am sure there are some having done this in a bit of haste, or some improvements please share them. :)

Hope you like it, here is the link:

Hmmmm

Thats is annoying. I seem to remember there is some knack to it, as I vaguely remember this issue before. I remember working it out, but can't think what it is now.

I basically opened the Nord G1 file in a text editor and pasted its content, perhaps that is wrong. I noticed you used the G2 extension, not sure if that makes much difference, as I couldn't get my own file to work running from this post, and yet it is that same text when I open it, really odd. Makes me think it is either my opening it in textedit, or a trick in how to put it back.

I couldn't use the attachement as it wouldn't recognise where it is and so I emailed it to you. It's late in London and figured you might like it now :)

Still, hopefully you can work it from the email, and pleased you are enjoying the mp3, at least that works :)

I am pleased to hear the DX7 is not as bad to program as I was led to believe. I had a kids Yamaha back when I was pre-teens, and never found that to be a major problem. I am definitely going to have to get my hands on one this year.

Anyway, Nord stuff.

I am just uploading today's blog entry and thought I would share the patch for it on here.

I have had one go in the past at Granular 'styled' efforts, but today thought I would have another bash at it.

After some failed attempts using envelopes and delays, I quickly (and inaccurately) used the phase shifting technique I picked up from I think it was Nobaysu Sakonda's MAX patch many years back, also using the phase to emulate an envelope or sorts, avoiding the click problem I was getting with the normal Envelopes.

I assigned two dials, one for pan spread, and the other for the rate of the 'grains' or envelope movements really, more Synchronous Granular, I think :)

I put some FM tones in more to test but ended up using that mainly for the sound as ran out of time this morning.

It's far from perfect, but I might have a go at tweaked it some more tomorrow morning, or hopefully someone might do that for me :)
