FIELD RECORDING / sound maps
« on: May 27, 2010, 09:03:51 am »
i posted this link in the old forum and decided to repost, as the concept is quite interesting. some great recordings out there. reminds me a lot of Aaron Ximm's "One-minute vacation" project. while it is on hold for now, aporee maps are active and you can post your own recordings anytime. lots of my stuff there as well, just difficult to fish out among other hundreds recordings, especially in major cities. but adding regularly. both short recordings as well as longer sound walks.

have fun and contribute.

COMPUTER MUSIC / software for online music colaboration
« on: May 20, 2010, 03:40:59 am »
some time ago I found an entry on Andrew Spitz's blog {sound + design} about software for music collaboration on-line. thought you might find them interesting and helpful.

1. Camtwist.(mac only) displays your desktop on the other computer. showing things you're doing at the moment is so much easier, rather than trying to explain.
http://www.allocinit.com/index.php?title=CamTwist

2. Soundflower(also mac only) - feeds audio signal directly from your DAW to Skype. No need to route speakers -> mic and thus loose quality. contrary to sending a file to the other person it opens interactive possibilities.

3. Dropbox seems like an obvious move for sharing big files.

let know if you know/use any other software for collaborating from a distance, especially for PC.

and Andrew's blog also worth looking at. oriented towards sound design, field recording and max/msp programing

SELF PROMOTION / ex64 live @ Minoga (CANCELED)
« on: May 04, 2010, 03:06:14 pm »
CANCELED...

Hi,

we'll be performing live on 19th of May @ Klub pod Minogą, Poznań, Poland. entry fee 3$/8zł

ex64 is a collaboration between two Poznań based musicians Maciej and Marek, initiated in 2008 and focused mainly on live performances. Their sets employ synthetic, style amorphic compositions, saturated with traditional instruments (guitar, tuba), curious improvisations, processed field recordings as well as sound squeezing and mangling form trifle, seemingly audio infertile objects. Visual element is provided in the form of projected photographs, taken by Julius Anton.

drop by if you happen to be around...

COMPUTER MUSIC / free plug-ins
« on: March 24, 2010, 08:24:58 am »
Came across this decent plug recently and been enjoying it immensely. Modest, GUI simplistic yet insane and powerful frq shift/echo plug-in. Give it a ride.

So what are your favorite free plug-ins? Share your findings and post your weapons of choice if you don't mind revealing your sound mangling tools.

FIELD RECORDING / hacking tone
« on: February 10, 2010, 04:20:09 pm »
very much worth checking evala's "haking tone" audio diary. excellent field recordings (mainly binaural) accompanied with pictures from locations in Japan.

also, according to the blog, evala is releasing a new album next month. two actually. yay, can't wait.

FIELD RECORDING / underwater recording solutions
« on: February 09, 2010, 03:26:44 am »
just found this company from Germany producing underwater, surround recording systems. can be used up to 1000m. form what I understand they only rent it and you have to book an operator for the system if you want to use it. bet it's quite pricey.

there are sound samples available on their site + a surround mp3 player. check it out. really cool.

« on: February 05, 2010, 06:14:08 pm »
I'd like to recommend Nathan Moody's "Noise Jockey" blog, posting some awesome recordings, out of the ordinary ideas for sound design and a few insights on field-recording gear and techniques. Nathan is a multi-disciplinary designer from San Francisco. More here:

FIELD RECORDING / A small slice of tranquillity
« on: January 11, 2010, 08:41:30 pm »
decided to post it in field recording section as Chris Watson being the author and the host of the program.

a documentary exploring issues concerning sonic ecology, meaning of tranquility, escape from everyday human-made din, sound and silence perception, active listening etc.
two parts, each about 30 minutes long. very interesting and thought-provoking, I'd say.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/tranquillity.shtml

the program can be streamed and listened to as an .ram file. foobar and VLC media player open this format. I'm sure other players will as well.

enjoy and feedback
