OTHER MUSIC / Re: object vs. mp3
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:59:18 pm »
i tend to prefer hard copies of albums on my favourite labels and artists, as the collector in me feels it just isn't the same otherwise.  and i like the tangible aspect and enjoying the artwork/layout etc.

however, the actual music is of most importance, and i have no problem with mp3s either.  if it's great music, then i'll definitely remember and connect to it much the same way as i would with CDs, and not just because of the artwork etc.

while MP is/was one of my favourite labels, i don't like the idea of it being resurrected without the original ethos.  if, like taylor says, the new owner doesn't genuinely understand the musical ideas connected with the original label, it sounds like it's simply a business venture.  in which case it's just milking it, and having the 5th installment of clicks n cuts as its first priority proves a lack of vision.

Autechre - Perlence Subrange 6-36

it's the final track from their quadrange series.  one hour long, very minimal and ambient.

Jodi Cave, For Myria (This disc has slowly grown to be one of my absolute favorite 12k releases...although, I confess I didn't rate it very highly when it first came out!  :-X)
One of my 12k favorites as well (I have a soft spot for bell sounds, kalimbas and such)

I've always been very positive about this album - just had all the elements of the 12k albums I love...

Same here. For myria is one of my favourite 12k releases of recent years. Really gets the balance right between digital and organic.
Lovely cover art, too.

Listening:
Sunn O))) 'Monoliths & Dimensions'
Still not sure what to think of that 'evil voice'... I can't really take it serious (should I?)..
Musical, this is an amazing record...

attila's vocals on various sunn records are pretty tongue-in-cheek, but then sunn generally are kinda theatrical (the robes, dry ice etc).  sure, on the black one album they recorded vocalist malefic (who's apparently claustrophobic) screaming in terror after they locked him in a coffin and put it in the back of a hearse!  crazy.

although musically, the final track on monoliths & dimensions, "alice", is simply outstanding.  no need for theatrics there.

cheers for the info taylor.  it's the Tplay 12" i'm particularly interested in seeing released digitally as i've never heard that one.
and the newtables and travelogue 12"s i have on vinyl, but are in ireland in storage and i haven't listened to them in years.... so i hope these all get a 12k release.
