Autechre, Oversteps (The real version...direct from Warp. 2 minutes in...sounds EPIC. It's definitely a return to their earlier, more ambient-esque material.)

 :o ???  oh, you're joking!

but regarding the direction of overstep's sound, a few hints have been provided here:
http://newsflash.bigshotmag.com/?p=7302

Definitely not joking! I'm actually reviewing it for Big Shot. What I've heard so far sounds excellent...a real return to the Autechre sound of old. Very pleased...but I need to spend more time with it yet.

ahhh!  you're so lucky!  i'm dying to hear the new lp, the wait is killing me.  when you say, "sound of old", could you say what Ae period?  if you can't say anymore, i completely understand.  what i'm hoping for is a follow up to draft, which i thought was them at the top of their game.  they kinda got sidetracked by elektron machines since!  ;)

I haven't even had a chance to get through the whole album yet. We hosted a Lost party last night (yes, I am a massive dork)...so I got through maybe 5 or 6 tracks before I had to attend to my hosting duties, but it definitely reminds me of the emphasis on atmosphere and "melody" (of a sort, at least) that albums like Amber and Chiastic Slide had. I'm going to spend most of today revisiting their older albums (it's been awhile!) and listening back on this. I'll be sure to update!

ha, radere!  i'm a massive lost junky too!  just watched the new episode, way to kick off the final season.  hope your lost party was fun, i just watched it with my wife and now the theories are flying between us.

new lost, new autechre!!  life doesn't get much better!

Read that earlier today, this is definitely their first album I've been excited about in quite some time (I like some kind of melodic content :D)

me too!  i'm also really happy to hear they're incorporating more computer use, hopefully this signals a bit more attention to sound design than full-on beats mode.  i'll be glad if they depart from the monomachine/machinedrum-centric sound of the last 2 albums.

Four Tet, There Is Love In You (Pretty much enjoying the hell out of this album...)

i'm not sure how i feel about this new four tet album.  the last two tracks are lovely, but as for the rest.... i don't know.

yeah, my first thoughts were concerning touchOSC.  if more OSC apps were developed and latency between the ipad and main computer were minimized, then it could give the lemur a run for its money.  especially as the entry price of the ipad isn't so steep.
although i read one review saying the apps look kinda chunky and blocky when viewed on a bigger screen compared to those same apps on iphones/ipods.  but i gues the developers will sort that out as time goes on.

This is an important point for me. I can flick through my whole vinyl collection going back to my very first album
(adam & the ants - prince charming, don't lol) and I can remember where and when I bought each one.
They're like a diary or audio scrapbook of my life.

spot on, jimmy.  it's not just the changing formats that change the listening/consuming of music.  i'm saddened by the amount of record shops that have closed as a result.  i used to love hanging out in indy music stores, checking new records and generally being informed by shop staff and customers alike.

no lols about adam and the ants!  that and shakin' stevens were my first singles!

OTHER MUSIC / Re: mille plateaux relaunch
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:39:45 am »
sure, in the old 12k forum, there was a thread about favourite clicks + cuts releases from back in the day.  it was a nice, nostalgic look at that particular period in electronic music.  no need to reinvent the genre with a new compilation, even if it's with new artists.
i guess i would always make the comparison between "classic" mille plateaux and any newly relaunched version, especially if it was run by different people.
