This is awesome. I don't listen to Radio 4 enough; thanks for pointing it out.

Actually the full version of xils 3 (not the no brainer one) has this. Not only invert the signal but also add/subtract  half/quarter of the voltage. i think there's a new upgrade deal now available to the full version.

Cool! Looks like I'll have to save up for the upgrade

I second that point, NQ. I got the XILS3 through the no-brainer deal and aside from a few glitches (no tooltips) and preset limitations, it sounds great.
There's another VSTi version of the EMS SynthiA available free here:
http://ninecows.dk/cynthia/
It has a feature not present in the XILS3 or the original SynthiA - pins on the matrix that invert the signal

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Re: mixing with your eyes closed

All 'sound' advice ;-)

But I also like to approach from the other angle: Making visual patterns with an interface, and using that as a starting point regardless of what it sounds like, then making adjustments (by ear) afterwards.

If you're looking for something like the Gristleizer in terms of sound and quirkiness, check these:

Just finished Thomas Pynchon's latest - Inherent Vice. Bit different to his earlier work (less surreal), but a decent detective romp through hippy California, with the usual crazy-named characters. Not as good as Gravity's Rainbow.

OTHER MUSIC / Re: 2009 year-end lists?

Many of my favourite releases of 2009 already posted (SND, Alva Noto, Simon Scott, Pillowdiver). To those, I would add:

Propagandhi - Supporting Caste (G7 Welcoming Committee)
Mountains - Choral
Pelican - What We All Come To Need (Southern Lord)
Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport
Group Bombino - Guitars From Agadez vol. 2
Taylor Deupree - Weather & Worn

Best discoveries of older music in the last year:

Bernard Parmegiani - De Natura Sonorum / La Creation Du Monde
Iannis Xenakis - Electronic Music
Gyorgy Ligeti - Musica Ricercata
Alim Qasimov Ensemble - The Legendary Art of Mugham
Harry Partch - Delusions of the Fury
Hurriganes - Roadrunner

Deja vu: My first post on the old forum was on Radere's thread about DI boxes, and now my first post on the revived forum is on the equivalent thread!

Sounds like you've sorted it now, but just to say that having heard the SamsAmp box in action, I think you made a good choice. Some good warm and crunchy tones in there for guitar and bass alike.
