Good stuff. It's similar to a spirograph image, except that this is a Lissajous figure, which represents the ratio of the frequencies of the two turntable speeds. It's very similar to images produced by a harmonograph or an X-Y phase scope. Those of you familiar with the album 'id' by Cyclo might recognize the phase diagram on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lissajous_curve

Chris Watson - El Tren Fantasma - The Signal Man's Mix
Barry Truax - Riverrun. Previously difficult to get hold of, this track is now available via Ubuweb - no. 347 on this long list: http://www.ubu.com/sound/electronic.html

Stephen Christopher Stamper - Begin Anywhere (Runningonair)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love. Never really listened to this album before, for some reason. That 1st track is ace.
Taylor Deupree + Marcus Fischer - In a Place of Such Graceful Shapes has been bedtime choice for the past 2 weeks. Great stuff - wish I'd listened to the end more often, but usually asleep by then!

An unexpected tax refund allowed for some catch-up shopping:

Taylor Deupree + Marcus Fischer - In A Place Of Such Graceful Shapes
Kenneth Kirschner - Twenty Ten
Chris Watson - El Tren Fantasma
Fingerbobs: Original Television Music (Trunk Records)
The Automatics Group - Summer Mix (Entr’acte)
Kogumaza - Kogumaza (Low Point)

Really enjoying the music and images of Disquiet's Instagr/am/bient project, which features some of this forum's members. Also, the Disquiet Junto on SoundCloud has got off to a great start - it's rapidly building into a community with a good variety of work.

I use it loads. REAPER has a great business model, thorough documentation, useful support via the forum, is totally customisable, and has loads of updates. On top of all that it's very cheap and very small (<6MB!). What's not to like?

« on: January 07, 2012, 08:32:33 am »
Without having seen the Northern reissue, it's difficult to decide whether the proposed format is preferable to the current digipak. But having said that, I have great faith in your aesthetic judgement, Taylor, and if you're considering this change I think you should go with your instinct. If your packaging costs are doubled, then it is very generous to increase the sales price by only $1.

Aside from issues of sustainability, my problem with plastic is mainly with the central part that holds the CD - those fragile plastic bits can break, so I prefer those spongy discs (as used in the Deupree + Fischer box lid).

In short - go for it!

mark fell - periodic orbits of a dynamic system related to a string

yasunao tone - mp3 deviations #6 + 7

That Yasunao Tone album is a bit noisy! Lovely artwork by Tina Frank, though.
Only heard clips of Mark Fell's latest. Feels almost like he's beginning to milk those Multistability sessions a bit, except it's always good stuff.

Beth Kleist - Drei
Le Berger - On Silence
Stephan Mathieu - A Static Place. Just can't get this off the stereo recently. So much hidden structure to explore within its depths.

Kooky - a Czech puppet film about a lost teddy bear. Much better than that description sounds - lots of charm, detail, inventiveness and visual treats.

Island - a film by Efterklang and Vincent Moon. Saw it at one of their gigs, but just got the DVD, a lovely package.

I just came across the work of Dan Florin Spataru, via the cover artwork for the upcoming Thy Veils release. His site is amazing:

http://www.urbaum.com/

It took me a little while to realise how much work is on there - it's minimal in design, but try clicking on stuff to reveal more! Some great photography at high resolution.
