OTHER MUSIC / loopool's Visible Spectrum Scale Project - Comp Call
« on: June 04, 2013, 12:19:47 am »

COMPILATION CALL:
A call to artists who are willing to take up the challenge of working with alternate tunings, loopool & Welcome to the 21st Records are hosting a compilation of works based exclusively on this visible spectrum tuning.  Several sf2. soundfonts have been provided with instruments already in this tuning but feel free to create your own with the chart provided below.  A graphic score and moving graphic score have also been provided should you like to work with these as a starting point (optional). Submission details can be found at http://www.loopool.org
http://www.welcometothe21st.bandcamp.com

the LOOPOOL Visible Spectrum Scale Project
Starting with the average frequencies of the visible light spectrum then using the center of these frequency ranges for each color as a starting point and pitching them down, a hexatonic scale has been created, roughly corresponding to: F#, D#, C#, C, B, A. These frequencies have been given MIDI note assignments and the 8 octaves spread across the 52 white keys of the keyboard (black keys are not used).

SELF PROMOTION / LOOPOOL Presents: the Scream - new FREE compilation
« on: July 21, 2012, 06:34:37 pm »
LOOPOOL Presents: the Scream

Compilation featuring: Shark Egg Blues, Travis Johnson, Somnaphon, the Zero Collective, Human Nihil, Dr. Auxiliary, Cathartech, loopool, and Seeing Red

Every sound that you hear on this compilation was created using a single sample, a scream, just a little over a second long, a mere 262kb. The album was created to explore the vast array of possibilities utilizing minimal source material. The original scream itself is inconsequential and disappears into the filter of the artists involved. It was designed as a challenge to the artists, as if told that only a C major chord could be used in composition, yet interesting music had to the the result. Even with this restriction the world of sound is endless and is exemplified by the variety of music presented on this compilation.

From Feb. 2011 to Feb 2012 I released field recordings once a week for others to use as source material.  After the 52 weeks of the project everyone sent in their tracks for the compilation, and one hell of a compilation it is, 22 artists from all around the world and a whopping 2 plus hours of music shaved out of the 11 hours of field recordings made available.  I would like to thank all those who contributed!  This has been a great year and I am immensely pleased by the scale and scope of this intense collaborative project.

you can get the comp for free or make a donation here http://welcometothe21st.bandcamp.com/album/loopool-presents-the-field-recordings-project

or just get it free herehttp://archive.org/details/LoopoolPresentsTheFieldRecordingsProject

That's not all, the project doesn't stop here.  For the second year of the project I will be releasing stock footage once a week for film makers to use.  There are only a few rules for the project among them being that the soundtrack has to be comprised of tracks from the compilation.  Spread the word and let's make something happen!  More details here http://www.loopool.org

loopool Field Recordings Project
For the past year once a week I have been releasing field recordings as free downloads to be used as source material in anyway you see fit.  Now the year is up, 52 weeks worth of recordings have been made available and it's time to collect everyone's submissions.  The plan is to release the comp as a free download and also as a cdr accompanied by an mp3 cdr of the field recordings themselves.  There are no rules for how you make your submission except that it must utilize recordings from the series.  Tracks should probably be shorter than 10 minutes if possible.  The deadline for submissions will be April 1st 2012.  Also I am looking for a visual artist to make a collage for the cover art using the photographs from the series.  Please contact me with any questions or suggestion concerning the project.  Please include with all submissions: wav. file, artist name, track title, your website and email.  Also please name the wav. file with your name and the track title so I can keep things organized.  Can't wait to hear what you all come up with!

SELF PROMOTION / a Star named after loopool?
« on: September 23, 2011, 07:21:48 am »
Why name a Star after LOOPOOL?  There is absolutely no good reason and that is exactly why the attempt is being made.  The company that sells the "rights" to Star names is essentially bogus and not recognized by the scientific community.  So again, why do this?  In this case the goal is to not make the goal, a fundraiser has been set up where the money can be kept either way (different % cuts apply), the hopes is that the goal is not met and that no Star will be falsely named after LOOPOOL, instead the money will be donated to SETI (Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence).  Trying to raise such a modest amount of money for the SETI program may seem odd and it is, but LOOPOOL's aim is to spread awareness of the SETI@HOME program where you donate your computer's unused processing power to help filter data collected by the program.  It is unlikely that we are alone in such a vast Universe.  We need to stop wasting time and find them!

SELF PROMOTION / New LOOPOOL album "Alive. Living. Live."
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:42:03 am »
New LOOPOOL album out now:
"Alive. Living. Live." on Ilse Records
For the past thirteen years LOOPOOl has created over forty records, yet live shows have been sparse, typically around once a year.  "Alive. Living. Live." recorded at three different shows in Seattle and Los Angeles during 2010/2011captures the variety of styles that LOOPOOL cycles through.  The record features four songs spanning over seventy minutes and contains covers of Coil's "Tattooed Man" and Gitane Demone's "Somewhere"  with Gitane herself (ex-Christian Death / Demonix) on backup vocals.  The album also features vocalizations from Butoh dancer Vanessa Skantze of the group Danse Perdue.  As well as covers the albums has two originals, the thirty five minute epic "the Pleasure of Cleaning Up"  an amalgamation of traditional Sufi and Japanese music, and "Notation Improvisations 3.6" a performance given for the release of the Notations Improvisations III album made with a player piano style music box.  Throughout LOOPOOL's history change has been paramount and rarely has genre been ascribed to, with this release it all comes to a head with a form of dark cabaret/ambient that ties the past thirteen years of work together in a package that perhaps makes more sense than a random sampling of his albums.  While it is impossible to pinpoint the essence of LOOPOOL's music this release gives an accurate picture of his influences and love of textural structures that balance on the edge of the disquieting.
