Prefuse 73 - - Vocal Studies And Uprock Narratives

Superb album. Have you ever heard a track called "Love You Bring" by P73? It really takes you back.

Currently listening to...

The Boats are so diverse yet always quality. Truly pleasing to the ear. Beautiful music. I'll be ordering one of these on January 1st - thanks for making it happen.

Not to mention "Ballads Of The Research Department" forthcoming on 12k too. "The Ballad Of Failure". Pure class.

Cool stuff haesslich, particularly the first one. Apologies for adding to the general festive bombardment that we've all had to endure for the past couple of months. I just couldn't resist....

FIELD RECORDING / Re: weirdest field recording happenings go here...
« on: December 11, 2011, 05:59:54 pm »
Brilliant. It's a shame no one was on hand with a video camera at the time. That would have been hilarious to see. Good to hear that you got it back though....some dogs will eat literally anything.

I remember standing in one of those nooks with the security doors that you find at the side of larger shops, getting ready to record a busker. An employee marched clean through the doors with several shopping trolleys sending me straight to the deck. The only person within about 100 yards who didn't seem to notice was the busker - he didn't miss a beat.

Fantastic. They're all very moody and atmospheric. I particular like the first one and the last two. Simple but cool.

On the subject of polaroids, yes, I'd noticed how cheap the cameras actually go for in comparison to the paper. Ironic really, isn't it? You would think someone might have come up with a way to do it more cheaply but obviously not. Maybe having a look around on eBay or in thrift shops could save a bit of money.

Thanks. Glad you like them.

$38 for 8 pictures. Blimey. That really is quite steep. I'll have to stick with the faithful DSLR and the Holga for the time being, unfortunately.

Great stuff. Polaroid - is it still quite expensive to do?

thank you charlie, it means a lot to me.

You're welcome. They're really cool photos. The colours and textures are top notch. Very subtle and dreamy. What type of camera did you use to take them? They look like film but it's difficult to tell these days.

Beautiful photos, people. Very tasteful and inspiring.

mdoudin - Tremendous. Great subject and really nicely captured.

haesslich - Is that a DSLR that you're using? If so, have a flick through the options and look for cleaning mode. Take the lens off, set it on its cleaning cycle and then apply a light breeze to the inside of the camera - I usually use a hair dryer on its lowest and coldest setting from around 12 inches away. That will get rid of the blotches on your sensor. Turn the camera off, put the lens back on and it will be as good as new.

Christina Vantzou - No.1 - Kranky
Chris Watson - El Tran Fantasma - Touch
Minamo - Documental - Room40

It's been an enjoyable weekend for music. People who appreciated "A Winged Victory For The Sullen" should definitely check out the album by Christina Vantzou. "El Tran Fantasma" and "Documental" are equally fascinating.

THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Re: Airborne
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:23:08 pm »
Hi Sam,

It's a depressing state of affairs that so many talented artists make so little for their efforts. But at the same time, I can't really see this catching on. There are too many possible complexities involved. I'd rather just do things the old fashioned way - by purchasing the music when it comes out. CC music is obviously a bit different but even so, people usually have the option to give money via paypal, etc. A monthly subscription (no matter how minimal it may be) seems like an obligation. Like paying the gas bill. That probably sounds terribly pessimistic.

Quality photos everyone.

Also on the subject of pinholes, here's a tutorial on how to create a pinhole lens for a standard SLR with a camera body cap and a couple of other bits and pieces that most people will have lying around at home...

OTHER MUSIC / Re: Marconi Union produce "the most relaxing song ever".
« on: October 31, 2011, 01:21:23 pm »
Very well said.

It's often a crying shame that so much excellent music goes largely ignored. But at the same time, when by some slim chance that it does gain recognition, it often seems to be for reasons that are far removed from the original intended context.

Presumably, a situation like this may also create a bit of a personal dilemma for the artists involved.  Fair play to Marconi Union for taking the stance that they have, though. Refusing interviews and suchlike. It makes things seem pretty clear about where they stand.

Still, concepts like this set my nerves on edge. Making 'the most relaxed tune ever' sounds a lot like 'how much noise can I create with my dubstep chainsaw'. Like a contest.
