ok, the 2gb Transcend MLC 133x does not work properly. glitches in the recording after a while.
I'm now waiting for a 1gb cnMemory and a 1gb Platinum.

where are all the 1gb and 2gb sandisk ultras gone to? these worked like a charm!

semi-false alarm. seems to be the card, the mpc could format it but not write or read... however, i wonder why the card was f***ed up, it was only one year old and exclusively used in the 2880...

brilliant  >:(
now as i said that i never had issues, some cards stopped working :(
unfortunately it seems to be the 2880 itself, not the cards, since i could format it using my mpc1000. it was not possible to format it with the 2880 connected to usb.
if the cardreader in my 2880 is defect, i'm pretty fucked.

I recommend using smaller cards.
I tried using the 2gb ones and they did not work well, 512 mb should be well enough!

i had no issues with 1gb and 2gb cards so far.
so issues might be dependent on model, brand, access speed etc...

I´d like to know if the 2880 is fast or takes its time when loading sessions from cards (i.e: filled with 2-3 minute loops per track)

the 2880 doesn't take any time for loading or saving onto card. however, i always make sure to choose relatively fast cards, because transferring to my computer is significantly faster with fast cards.

haven't listened to Air Liquide in ages.

I'm "post-Liquid-Sky-generation" but I used to hang out in the Camouflage from time to time. I learned a lesson for life at that time: Don't do acid parties for 10 years. 10 years of acid parties will let you age 20 years.   ;)

Still like Air Liquide from time to time, though.

SYNTHESIZERS + SOUND-MAKING HARDWARE / hxc floppy emulator
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:15:31 pm »
after paying 120€, 2 months of waiting, 4 hours of frustrating fiddling and 10 minutes of email support i got a HXC floppy emulator working in my asr10.
it replaces the internal floppy drive and mounts floppy images from an SD card. it does not replace a bigger disk or scsi, but getting rid of all those floppy disks is great!

the emulator works with literally every floppy device, may it be a classic computer, sampler, keyboard or even CNC machine. the only thing to keep in mind is that you need a PC with internal floppy drive to create disk images from floppies. (usb drives won't work)

just wanted to mention this, since the one or the other might still hang around with an old sampler or whatever.

hardware can be purchased at http://lotharek.pl/
and the software is available here: http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/
as mentioned above, the software guy, jeff, does an excellent support job too!

SYNTHESIZERS + SOUND-MAKING HARDWARE / Re: teenage engineering OP-1
« on: June 05, 2012, 08:08:53 am »
congratulations! :) is it already there? what's your impression?

i've problems with sinewaves on mine; when i play chords, it starts clipping quite early. i've less problems with more complex waveforms. question to the other op-1 users: how do you handle this?
i already deactivated the master compressor and set main output levels in the mixer to 75%, but the clipping happens in the individual channels, way before the output mixer, so that does not help.

12K + LINE / Re: NEW 12K TITLES AVAILABLE TODAY
« on: June 01, 2012, 04:51:47 am »
just to let you (and everybody ;) ) know:
the simon scott cd + book was in my mailbox today. awesome!
after the slow postal processing of the gareth dickson release (no pun intended since i know that delays like this are absolutely out of your control) it was good to see that ordering overseas still can be a quick, convenient thing.

so thumbs up for 12k, simon scott and the postal service(s).

seen greg haines this week.
saw him previously two years ago, with a mostly cello + laptop setup. this week it was piano + laptop. he played rather shallow piano pieces for some time, broken by electronic sounds and effects. but the last song blowed us away: a synth heavy dance hymn, enriched by piano chords. supercool!
