STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Re: OD-11 cloud speaker

oooh... so what are you doing here then?
just joking  8)

minimalist interieurs are nice to look at but hard to handle for me. somehow free space is consumed pretty fast, here in my flat. ;-)
i suspect the 30x30cm^2 top area of this speaker would be used e.g. as a place to put papers, receipts, unread mails, cables, batteries and eventually food. might affect sound quality!  ;D

many cheap bluetooth audio streaming devices make use of the SBC codec, which is of very low quality.
mp3 and aac are not mandatory for audio streams over bluetooth, so only selected devices support these.

i can't imagine that teenage engineering would go with something like SBC for their speaker, since they have a certain pricetag - which comes with certain expectations.

however, i don't like the design very much, to be honest. maybe i just dislike to place a 30x30x30cm cube in my living room. i'm not a big fan of minimalist interieur anyway ;-)

after a bunch of ambient albums, i felt the need for some indie counter balance:
the unwinding hours - afterlives
ewert and the two dragons - good man down

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: Using condenser mics with pedals
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:55:24 am »
i remember to have read once that the tinybox was common among field recorders back in the days when many people recorded on MD and the devices had no mic preamps. might be a good option.

there are mic preamps in pedal format, like the tc voice tone series. starting at ~100€ with the voice tone T1, which offers phantom power+preamp+compression (might be usefull). output is XLR, so you'd need an adapter cable. not sure about the output's impedance though... i don't expect these preamps to be really good (but then: not worse than cheap mixer preamps)
so might be worth a try?

FIELD RECORDING / field recording sampling cd
« on: August 09, 2012, 01:57:30 am »
you can discuss endlessly about the sense and nonsense of sampling cds. but this really outplays everything:
http://www.loopmasters.com/product/details/1433/Glimpse-Found-Sounds-and-Field-Recordings

found sounds and field recordings.

i don't want to comment this any further except for:
this is the ANTI-field-recording in my opinion. the complete opposite of what found sound actually means. (irony: found sound shall be found on a sampling CD, yes).

while field recordings are essential for my music, i don't regard them as a signature for myself (nobody actually cares whether i recorded this or not. it's irrelevant for the listener). but what definitly matters for me is the recording process. i would not miss that!

why on earth would anyone just skip the recording process?  ???

this is SO wrong.  ::)

some BBDs of the MN3xxx series can be found at this german shop:
musikding.de

i ordered there before, it's a reliable shop. they also offer housings, knobs, alpha pots, jacks, switches (reads: everything you might need for diy pedals) and even complete kits.

might be an alternative for european fellows!

a live performance of gusgus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e96lbFiG_k8

i have been at that show: awesome. gus gus proved to be a really good liveact, with really good sound and strong vocalists.
i recall that it was around 1PM, raining a lot, only 10°C and very windy. we took the 15 minutes walk from our hotel to downtown reykjavik, and were mainly looking for a warm place, not expecting to be able to see gus gus at all. indeed it was really packed, but somehow we managed to sneak in. despite being wet, and tired, and frozen, gus gus managed to bring us in the right mood for the festival to follow, on a wednesday at 1PM. that's remarkable! :)

a friend of mine developed my first b/w film recently. i shot this on a sunny day in spring at AEG, a partly abandoned factory complex.
now i understand why people still shoot on b/w film!
