SELF PROMOTION / Decisively lingering
« on: April 19, 2013, 01:00:17 pm »
No new material to speak of, but I used other people's stuff and put it together in a mix for A Closer Listen including a mini interview.

To my ears the whole thing flows really well together, I hope you appreciate as well: http://acloserlisten.com/2013/04/16/lcnl-019-decisively-lingering-mix-le-berger/

SELF PROMOTION / Trivial Cataclysms
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:22:14 pm »
Hello, here you have a (much) noisier approach than usual for yours truly. Some of you might remember that I had made a piece by piece preview a few months back. The album has since then been reworked and leveled a little better and then the pacing changed some as well.

It's available as a free download on Vuzh Music, CC by SA licence, everyone and anyone is welcome to use this material.

SELF PROMOTION / #Sequence5
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:37:55 pm »
Most of 12k forum regulars probably already know through twitter, but on the off chance, might as well publicize it here as well. Actually many 12k forum frequent flyers are on this compilation...

You may click and download, for free.

For my part, the opening track is a collab with Pascal Savy.

SELF PROMOTION / Trivial Cataclysms
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:41:52 am »
Allo all.

Up / incoming album "Trivial Cataclysms" will be released digitally, one sound piece at a time every Sunday until it's all out and about in the world, doing its own thing. Some of the pieces come from a study on the seemingly mundane and trivial nature of day to day activities and others will be composed pieces. Contrast, so to speak.

Anyhow, here goes the opener:

Pitching in a few pennies / dollars /give me your cigarette boat even / is strongly encouraged. Trying to gather funds for upcoming physical releases.

See you next week!

SELF PROMOTION / Now that's what I call drone (Vol. 1)
« on: July 24, 2012, 12:32:51 am »
"like all significant ideas throughout history, this started as a joke on twitter."

Need I say more?

A compilation of drone-ish remixes of top 40 pop songs, don't know how long it's gonna be before someone gives enough of a shit to ask the host to take it down on copyright grounds, but in the mean time it's a free download up for grabs.

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Microphone specifics
« on: July 03, 2012, 11:26:49 pm »
Hi guys, figure this is probably the best place to ask and since this is an area where I'm definitely out of my debt, all input welcome.

I want to record something in a very specific room and wonder about mic placement, which type of mics to use and especially if the equipment is likely to endure or be damaged by unusual environmental conditions.

The room is about 16-18 feet X 16-18 feet, square, 3 walls are made of ceramics and the last one is windows. The ceiling is an inverse diamond shape making the middle of the room narrower in height than its corners and sides. The material to be recorded will be solely human vocals (at least 8 different voices) coming from all sides of the room. Plus, the room is insanely damp and hot (if that matters? I assume water is somewhat a sound barrier...)

I'm all ears.

SELF PROMOTION / SEQUENCE #4 compilation
« on: June 27, 2012, 11:46:51 pm »
Curated by Michael Waring & Ed Hamiltion, www.futuresequence.com gathers an impressive roster of 42 artists each sharing a new unreleased track. Some names should be familiar to 12k forum regulars (Guy Birkin, J Butler, loscil, etc.) while others more obscure, but one for sure thing is that there's bound to be a good few tracks you like somewhere in the melting pot. It's a free download too, so please indulge and share with friends.

Here's the official release page: http://www.futuresequence.com/releases/sequence-four/

And you can download the whole thing by clicking on the picture below.

Cheers!

« on: December 22, 2011, 06:31:18 pm »
Yet, for some reason, a chain reaction took place today. The following artists (& members of this forum) have their albums set up as "pay what you can't" for the holiday season:

SELF PROMOTION / Le Berger - ...on silence
« on: November 03, 2011, 09:49:27 pm »
(thread vanished! must be the change of server)

"...On Silence" graciously offered as a free download through the hospice of Feedbackloop Label, for more download options please visit archive.org.

Excerpt from the release notes kindly provided by Michael Waring from futuresequence:

" [...] does silence actually exist? Is it not just an ideal, only to be experienced, if that is the right word, when we cease to be?

Montreal based artist Samuel Landry meditates on this concept over the course of this two track EP '…On Silence'. For the past 2 years Landry has been creating ambient drone works under the moniker of 'Le Berger', exploring tonal dynamics through a minimal aesthetic, '…On Silence' is his most reductive work yet.

The evolution of first track 'A Manufactured Concept' appears to pass almost unnoticed, so that we move through a space quite unknowing of our location within it. The slow gaussian blur of the sine wave like tone enraptures the listener with a subtle yet enveloping texture. With this long form piece, Landry nods quietly to the work of other minimalists..."

SELF PROMOTION / For your own self promo | Bookings, venues, etc.
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:59:56 pm »
I stumbled upon this user based website that has loads of info about venues in every corner of the globe: http://improvdb.free.fr/

There are probably some out of dates infos, but I encourage you strongly to modify content by adding venues or changing contact info, that sort of thing, seems like a very practical phonebook to have.

OTHER MUSIC / You like sounds and places? So do I.
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:36:38 am »
I'm looking for folks who would be willing to record the acoustics of a space they are fond of and send it my way for an upcoming project.

What's it in for you? The wonderful perk of seeing your name in the liner notes credits and basically, feeling marvelous about yourself until the very day you die. Who doesn't want that?

There are specific guidelines, PM or post right here for details.

COMPUTER MUSIC / sheet music
« on: July 19, 2011, 01:05:41 pm »
Hoy, so I've been honoring my early classical training as of late and writing more music. Some of it on napkins and other bits on proper sheets. But I'm thinking there probably is a much more efficient way to go about it nowadays.

I'm not even using a DAW yet, so bear with me! I know I'll be recording in a studio that runs with Cubase pretty soon though.

Anywho, there must be an option with MIDI protocol to transfer something you play on a keyboard, drum machine, etc. straight onto sheet music right? A plug in of some sort maybe, or a DAW that does it for you?
