I must admit I'd be really happy to get a real pro to master my stuff. I've never done this for couple of reasons. Firstly the additional cost and also whether you can trust the person doing the mastering. A lot of CD manufacturers offer a mastering service and I find this particularly off putting. With out a decent recommendation I wouldn't do it.
That's why I've gone for a self mastering approach. I guess the main disadvantage is not having that extra pair of ears. But it does make you wonder if it's ever possible to do a decent job on your own?
