Reading your post, I do believe you hold the key to what you are looking for. You stated that you already submitted something to a label. I'm assuming you didn't have the "high end" equipment when you recorded it......why worry about it now? If the label is showing interest in what they've already heard, oblige their request and send them some more.
I reallize that what you have already sent might not be exactly what you want (ie - you had to settle and use sub-par equipment), but I would think all of that could come later after the label is wanting to work with you. I would be surprised if the majority of labels have "high end" recording equipment. HOWEVER - an artist they are already working with may have access to said equipment and the label would make a way for you to use such equipment.
Right now it seems like the label is just concerned about you being able to supply them with enough material for a proper release. If you can do this, I believe your options may start to open up for you.
