OTHER MUSIC / Re: What are you listening to?

Taylor Deupree - Shoals   The funny thing about this release is that i have heard it over 20 times and i can't figure out if i like it or not. I think that i just don't get it somehow, i can't understand the process of sounds and the technical part of this album. This is really annoying for me because i tend to be very analytical about everything and especially about the production.
likewise.  Maybe not 20 times yet, but it's doing my head in, in a good way.  I've listened to Northern so much, and I guess I was expecting part ii, but Shoals is so much its own thing - and so different to Taylor's other stuff.  I think it's growing on me, but it's more challenging, perhaps less accessible, than his other stuff.  As always, though, there's something new in it each time I listen.  How does he do that?

t.deupree - northern (original version)

it's been a long time since i listened back to this one... i'd been loving the reissue since it came out and never really looked back until this morning.  nice.

how do they differ? had the re-mixing and re-mastering process much influence on "how the music is perceived" or rather: does it sound that much different?
i just have the reissue and cannot compare.

... and I only have the original - so I'd be intrigued to hear an opinion from someone who has both.

John Hudak and Stephan Mathieu - Pieces Of Winter (Sirr) - such a lovely album, plus one of my all-time favorite covers:
Mmm, yes love that cover.

Listening to FSOL - archives volume 1 and 2.  Kind of like a series Lifeforms outtakes - cool to listen to, with some familiar elements.

FIELD RECORDING / Re: Sounds of the anatomy
« on: November 18, 2010, 09:19:43 pm »
I use binaural microphones in my ears for field recordings.  On one occasion the ambient sound and wind was so quiet (it was at the edge of Death Valley), all I really heard on the recording seemed to be that of my respiratory and circulatory systems.

Phoned, a few days back, left a recording of morning birds out my bedroom window.  Hope this project goes well.

Nice work guys.

Rene - is the power pole at that angle or is that a camera thing (I notice with my cheapy cameras the - I guess - scanning effect makes things lean when I photograph from a moving vehicle)?

Taylor D - January (via boomkat), followed by Snow (dusk/dawn), (also boomkat)
Heribert Freidl - Trac[k]_t (on CD)
Billy Gomberg - Close ... found this on my hard-drive while having a tidy-up.  Think I'll keep it ;-)

SELF PROMOTION / Venus Vulture - Pylon Suite at Zenapolae
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:07:25 pm »
I've had a quiet year and a half as far as new music goes (focusing on other projects).  The Zenapolae Netlabel has just released my 38 minute long "Pylon Suite" - http://www.zenapolae.com/zen075.  Four tracks that make up a continuous deep, brooding movement.  Based on a long field recording (which wafts in and out through the album), together with ambient drones, the tracks share elements, gradually becoming more complex - track four is the busiest (well, as busy as ambient drone music might be).  Probably good to listen to at low volume while taking a bath or reading a horror novel.

I'm stoked about the cover art - created by Arnd Klotz, based on photos I'd taken around the time I was composing the music.
