« on: June 18, 2012, 01:10:54 pm »
Hi pug,

I'm familiar with Curtis from the iPhone app as well as h.fbk, touchOSC, Zones as well as a few others, the ones you've listed are new to me so I'll check them out :)

The cSound csgrain app looks amazing, I can only imagine it will produce some fantastic textures and processed sounds!!

Cheers.

FIELD RECORDING / Re: Portable/Live Recording Tascam DR-1 or Zoom H4N?
« on: January 19, 2012, 06:31:01 pm »
Hi Charlie thanks for the reply, I think you're right learning how to use your tools is most important. The Zoom does appear to get some love on here, which can only lead to positive things. The multitrack feature would be great and I think you can increase or slow the speed of the playback, which is a little handy, although I'm unsure if you can do this for each track?? I've not used any Marantz gear before but judging by the Machinefabriek sound I'm sure it'd be decent gear :)

Thanks for your input.
Rich.

FIELD RECORDING / Portable/Live Recording Tascam DR-1 or Zoom H4N?
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:03:27 am »
I'm in the market for a quality, multifunctional + creative mobile recorder, now what recommendations are out there guys? .. I do already own a mobile recording device, but i'm looking for something with a bit more edge, i've heard great things about the Zoom h4n and I know that Tascam are usually pretty reliable. So what advantages do each have over the other and what would be more useful in a live setting, or generally just for creativity? I wouldn't look to spend any more than the price of the Zoom which is around £249 $390 ...

thanks.

12K + LINE / Re: 12K PACKAGING CHANGE
« on: January 06, 2012, 08:37:55 am »
I personally love the fact that in such a tough time for cottage industry labels in the digital age, we're still talking about the importance of having something that's tangible, that has a meaning and you appreciate the feel of that particular product whether it be plastic, card, paper or a tin box. I love the Northern reissue and it does represent a shift in the overall design for 12k releases I feel, and it wasn't that long ago that you desired a change to the packaging. The packaging you're considering Taylor is still so 12k and stays true to its many values, minimalism, simplicity, design, look + feel. As for the $1 change, man that's so generous, everybody who appreciates great music, design and packaging will support 12k regardless but who said money was the most important thing when it comes down to enjoyment of a product. I say as long as you have the luxury of talking about physical releases whether it be cd or vinyl in the digital download world then I'll continue my support all the way. Afterall the most important value of a record is the artwork and design and is most important to ones experience of music, and with it a labels identity. Go for it :) and good luck.

Rich.

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: Any good reverb effects pedals

The Boss RV-3 is a classic by the way, another great reverb pedal that's worth adding to most chain of effects.

I do like the sound of most strymon gear and the blue sky does sound really nice as does the eventide space both very beautiful reverbs. I think I know what you're getting at Taylor I guess reverb can be created naturally like choosing a particular environment to record natural reverberation. I've listened to the latest Fennesz + Sakamoto release, 'Flumina' and that sounds absolutely amazing. Explores space so well!!

yeah i've seen the blue sky strymon pedal and it does sound very lush although i think for the price you might be able to get something just as good maybe cheaper, although there's no doubting the strymon sound!! :)

do Boss have any decent reverbs??
