12K + LINE / Re: SND back catalogue
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:37:14 am »
thanks for the suggestions, darren.. i'm sure we'll dig deep into their archives.

i guess it's also an important detail to note that these will not be "12k" releases, but rather their own label (snd) just managed by me on the back end...

the first 3 SND albums were very under-represented in the official, legal, world of digital downloads. mark fell came to me to help them out with that ('atavism' is supported by Raster)... i agreed to take it on and we expanded the idea to include various 12"s, live shows and other recordings they may want to get out there.

the first 3 albums, "makesnd cassette," "stdio," and "tender love" will be available in about a month. during that time we'll organize some of the other releases and get them out there as we can.

anywhere you can buy 12k downloads you'll be able to buy the SND stuff.. the usual places like iTunes, eMusic, Bleep, Boomkat, etc etc...

i'm really excited about the partnership, as i'm good friends with mark and mat and love their music. and was surprised it wasn't more readily available... it works out for everyone.

yes yes.. the hitachino white beer is my #1 favorite summer beer... not only is it so good.. but for me i have some really nice memories associated with it as well.

one of these days, maybe when our massive house renovation is done.. i'll crack open my bottle of the Rauschbier that Sogar sent me... the crazy smokey stuff.... yum... savoring that bottle though..

i wouldn't be so sure, billy  ;)

very commendable stance, ralph... i used to be really bad about buying new plug ins and such, but i haven't bought a plug in in so long now. and finding it much easier to ignore the constant deluge of new plugs.

i guess i can justify what i do, and my minor case of gear lust by the fact that i actually *am* productive and prolific. although lately i've just had such a desire to return to simpler means.. thus my obsession with hardware loopers. or at least a desire to not stare at a computer when making music.

i definitely see a LOT of people.. on some forums especially. where they have mountains and mountains of synthesizers, yet never actually USE them for anything.

i think we all need to realize that the best music is often made by the simplest means. and just keep that in mind when eying your next purchase..

agree on all 3 of those drops. built in mic *could* be fun, the other 2 i would absolutely drop.

here's the website for the hudson baby bourbons

http://tuthilltown.com/

i might say, the design of the bottles and labels is fantastic.. it's what drew me in to them in the first place.

on now:, or "in" now? or "going down now" ?

Snake River Pale Ale

http://www.snakeriverbrewing.com/

snake river has a huge brew list, some great looking stuff in there

the pale ale is hoppy, but not overly so. pretty smooth. nothing super unique about it, but definitely a good solid choice for a nice pale ale.

in retrospect, it was really liberating having my computer stolen.

damn... you know, i can give it back.. i was really hoping to cause pain and suffering.. but, if you're liberated.. hell, i'll just return the thing to you...

it was something like "neophilia"...

my point is... if we all shut off our internet connections for a YEAR... would we not get more done? we we stop thinking that what we already have is inferior? would we stop wanting new things? would we use what we have more, and in better ways?

i think the answer is "yes" to all of those questions. now that i have firmly planted myself in a world where i am doing things to OTHER people's music (mastering, mixing) i feel a huge responsibility to have the right tools and, probably rightfully so... but still, i argue that it has nothing (or very little) to do with the TOOLS as it does the person using them.

i am as much, or more, of a gear addict than the next guy.. looking at new gear sites/news countless number of times each day, just to see if anything new was released the past hour! now, i don't BUY as much gear anymore, as i've gotten to the point where i'm quite comfortable with what i have... but i always feel like there's something "better" out there and suffer from neophilia, for sure.

it would be great to have an "internet turn off year"... (in some ways!)....

in my own little way to distance myself from gear, or to at least concentrate on what i have.... when i go to florida next month for a week i'm brining my virus TI... and i'm going to spend the week, when i'm not with the family, exploring the TI in ways i never have before. away from the rest of  my gear, away from websites...

i yearn for such a simpler life, but i know that i could never do it, so i've got to find ways, find pockets of quietude amongst the overload and constant desire for more that we're bombarded with every day.

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / the constant desire for NEW
« on: January 15, 2010, 01:14:48 pm »
some time this morning i found a definition of the new (?) phenomenon of the constant desire for the next best thing.. the latest OS, the next version.... someone had a term for it, that i thought was really great...

was it on this forum? or did i read it somewhere else? anyone know what i'm talking about?

the reason i want to find that term again is that i want to start a new discussion based around this idea...

if it was on this forum, let me know.. i poked around, but couldn't find it.

i'm hoping for a little "low-tech".. but, we'll see... the addition of the audio loopers is massive for me.. this may be one of those buy-it-as-soon-it-comes-out pieces... buy before you try...

just looks so damn cool
