12K + LINE / UPCOMING 12K RELEASES
« on: May 12, 2013, 09:40:38 am »
just a little heads up about what's coming in the near future:

JUNE 11TH

12k1075: SEAWORTHY + TAYLOR DEUPREE "Wood, Winter, Hollow"
12K2028: ILLUHA "Interstices"

SEPTEMBER 3RD
12K1076: RYUICHI SAKAMOTO + TAYLOR DEUPREE "Disappearance"
http://www.sitesakamoto.com/whatsnew/

which is coming out on sakamoto's Commmons label in japan on july 10th (?) first... before 12k. but the 12k version  will be in the 12k shop for mailorder customers in july. just won't be seeded to distributors until september.

if you're working in an untreated room, a sub is about the worst thing you could do for your mixing. treat the room, LOTS of bass trapping, and then get a sub. even if you're not doing big, bassy, beaty music, a sub will let you know what's going on down there and is a good pair with the A7s, which don't have a lot of bass, but are otherwise excellent monitors.

but..  definitely definitely treat the room first or you'll be asking for trouble..

shipping does include tracking.. however, its not sent to you automatically.. just shoot me an email after you get your shipping notification.. and i can send you the tracking number.

glad you found the LP locally!

in the end I bought the origin lp locally in a store, and the download additionally in the 12k store. not much more expensive and probably less hassle.

but good to know that shipping includes a tracking number now, I might consider buying directly again when the next shop exclusive limited edition appears.

the rocket looks great. if it were polyphonic i'd get it in a second for my live rig.. but alas...

hi darren

yeah, chris and i are in regular contact.. and he knows i'm always interested in more motion material.... he's sort of moved on and doesn't do a lot of music these days.. so there are no immediate plans.. but it's also not out of consideration...

this is a question to taylor:

i'm guessing you were in contact recently with chris coode regarding the digital re-release of "pictures" through 12k.  i just wondered if you know the current state of his motion project, is it still active?  could there be any new material in the future?

many thanks!

yes, the labels we generate when shipping includes a tracking number.. which is nice!

and as for your second question, no, LPs or CDs, etc, bought from other retailers won't include a free download.. that's a function of the 12k shop.

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: 2880 discontinued...
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:58:48 am »
yea, ehx really dropped the ball on this. instead of making a next gen looper they repackaged essentially the same thing.

they could have reduced the size, added undo, asynchronous loops, etc....

oh well!

yeah.. partially gimmicky i think, but also holds a lot of potential. though "all" of their algorithms aren't available.. from what i see only about 3 from each pedal are... and the pedals have a dozen or so. for example, there is no looper from the time factor.

tying it into the ipad platform certainly makes it more ephemeral .. curious to see what the shelf life of these pedals becomes.

keeping my eye on it tho

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Re: M-S Equalizers
« on: January 10, 2013, 04:15:31 pm »
hardware or software?

any dual mono EQ, whether hardware or software, can be utilized in an M/S fashion with the proper plug in (cheap to free) or hardware device (expensive)...

also, there are certain plug in EQs that come with an M/S mode as well as certain hardware EQs...

looks really nice (and i mean aesthetically).. is it made of metal? if so, it would make my plastic tascam mic seem like a toy...

it better be for $200..

wonder how it'll compare to the tascam.

i thought i heard that the rode recording app is done by audiofile engineering and is just a re-skinned FiRE app.. which would be fine and good 'cos that's a great recording app.

COMPUTER MUSIC / Re: radiator - new soundtoys plugin
« on: January 02, 2013, 01:31:32 pm »
i tried the demo on a mix the other day but found it to distort really easily. it may have been the source material and maybe it's just not best used as a console emulator (tho it is based on a device used just for that)

i'll have to try it again on a different project.

thanks for the report, pascal. i love everything soundtoys does, but have really curbed my plug-in buying lately... but this does sound interesting. have you tried it as a channel/console emulator? do you think it works, or was made at all, do act like this? wonder what it would sound like on every channel of a mix...

i'll have to demo it i guess!
