THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / round table discussion

the topic of this board has weighed heavily on my mind lately. things are changing fast in the music business now. CD sales are in the tank, downloads aren't picking up the slack, and file sharing is killing labels off left and right.

where do we go from here? i've got a busy day today, but i'll try to get a few topics started.. would love to hear people's thoughts.. from all sides... artists, label owners, listeners, cd buyers, vinyl.. file sharers...

the end of a mystery!!

so.. the other month i heard on fluid radio this most amazing track.. but all it said on the playlist was "they were at the beach." no artist title, no album.. nothing...

i asked fluid, they didn't know what it was... i posted on twitter if anyone had heard of anything called "they were at the beach"...

no one had.. so, for the past months i've been listening to this amazing song by a mystery artist..

today on twitter someone mentions this album and.. indeed... the song is on this album... mystery solved!

so.. to billy and jason...  WOW. amazing work, guys... one of the best "electronic" pieces i've heard all year, and longer, for that matter.

but.. what's sad and embarassing.. is that i HAVE this cd.. jeremy (from experimedia) sent it to me with a few CDs and it's in my "to listen to" pile.... the damn masterpiece has been under my nose this whole time...

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / 2880 doesn't work..!

wondering if anyone can help me, or has seen this...

my 2880 looper seems to be busted... if i press NEW LOOP, or RECORD or PLAY.. the buttons don't light up and i can't access those functions.. almost like it's stuck in some external sync mode...

a looper isn't so useful when it can't record or play..

damn.. i hope i can fix this.. i have 2 gigs next week!!

i've set up a 12k_label twitter account to separate my own personal ramblings from label news. i'm not sure if this is better than one account or not. it's more work for me and everyone else... but, it's also more "official".. and those people who only want 12k news can just subscribe to the 12k twitter and not my personal one.

ART / interesting RSS feeds?

ok, call me late.. but i was finally bitten by the RSS bug this morning after trying out the Pulse app on the iPad... so now i'm in search of all things cool on RSS feeds... anyone have any suggestions? i'm following a few now like lifehacker, arch daily, dwell, some craft beer one...

basically looking for good art, tech, music, news, etc...

lay 'em on me!

oh, and i tried to add the 12k feed, but got an error.. i remember there were some users who also reported errors, but i thought i fixed it...

a really low-key, static, but melodic and tonal.. immersive. really nice!

12K1061
murralin lane "our house is on the wall"
from david wenngren of Library Tapes... Murralin Lane's debut is a creepy, low-fi, noisy, beautiful release with Ylva Wiklund providing the haunting vocals.

12K1062
seaworthy + matt roesner "two lakes"
recorded near two lakes in the australian countryside (ok, i can't find my info on this, so aplogies to the artists if i have the location wrong... but, there will be info on this soon!). this is one very stark, very very lonely sounding record. gentle field recordings, seaworthy's signature guitar.. some ukelele... very quiet listening stuff.
