THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Distribution

Thinking aloud. Bear with me.

Restarting my label, very softly. Was dealing with a few reputable distributors in the past, but I'm curious if the means for physical distribution is still a dire necessity to reach an intended audience? It seems many labels now offer with the purchase of a physical copy of a record, a high quality digital copy as a pacification device while your purchase is being shipped.

I realize some labels just don't want to deal/don't have the resources/time to deal with direct purchasing, but it seems as if the number of distributors shrink...their reluctance to take on new labels grows, to say nothing of logistics/potential struggles getting paid.

Curious to hear others experiences/commentary.

Run by JohnZolsen from the Worf Eyes/Spykes/American Tapes camp, the reviews on this site take on Pynchonian proportions at moments. If only he'd update it more...

SELF PROMOTION / NEW STUFF BY ME

Out now on EMA: A full length cd-r called "Condition" which is a bunch of performances from a recent tour.

Out in March on Moodgadget: Another full length called "I Am Waiting For You To Stop Being Mad At Me", which has remixes by forum members Koda, Off The Sky and Christopher Bissonnette as well as Three Legged Race (dude from Hair Police) and a few other folks. I promise the remixes are ten times better than my original tunes. I think this is going to be digital only. The label won't tell me anything anymore.

Coming up sometime in 2010: A collaboration I did with Off The Sky called "Graphic Novelty", a cassette on Rampart Tapes and a few other things. I don't know.

I think that's it.
