As a musician who rarely tours the U.S., this will be the one opportunity to see Eraldo Bernocchi's *only* stateside performance this year, and it promises to be a superb amalgam of deep ambient & dense rhythmic interplay, complimented by his unnerving visuals.

We hope to see you here tomorrow @ Eraldo's OTP debut.

ONE THOUSAND PULSES presents:

An Evening with ERALDO BERNOCCHI www.onethousandpulses.com

Eraldo Bernocchi first emerged in the mid 1980s as part of the famed underground group Sigillum S. After spending the decade building a cult following throughout Europe and the US, the 90s saw Bernocchi steadily expanding his musical partnerships and endeavors. Collaborations with Italian artists such as Afa and Almamegretta, as well as the formation of multi-media company Verba Corrige Productions with Petulia Mattioli raised Bernocchi's profile and began to showcase his eclectic sensibilities.

Besides becoming a sought-after remixer, Bernocchi's launched his SIMM project, and found time to collaborate with such stalwart colleagues as Mick Harris, Bill Laswell, Toshinori Kondo, Harold Budd, & Thomas Fehlmann. In 2009, Bernocchi co-founded Rare Noise Records, whose first releases included new work from Laswell-collaborator/guitarist Buckethead's Death Cube K persona, a new project from Laswell called Method of Defiance, Meditronica (Paolo Polcari and Ashtech) and Bernocchi's Parched duo with Davide Teiso. Throughout these pursuits, Bernocchi expertly navigates the varied sonic contours mapped across the blasted landscapes of beat-intensive electronica, drum 'n' bass, dubstep, and blackhole atmospherica. He promises to bring both a set of deepest ambient & rhythmic complexity to his OTP debut.

OTP is pleased to present composer and lute player Jozef van Wissem, renowned for his unusual approach to the renaissance and baroque lute, cutting and pasting classical pieces, reversing melodies, and adding electronics & processed field recordings to the lute’s rich, historic soundfield.

The unusual wedlock of composition and improvisation creates an unheard amalgam of contemporary folk and late renaissance music. van Wissem has accomplished the strange feat of bridging the idiom of 17th-century lute literature and 21st-century composition. Although he uses subtle electronic sound manipulation, van Wissem has largely stayed faithful to the particular timbre, resonance and playing technique of the lute. Yet his music does not progress in a traditional linear fashion, nor does it lead to predictable climaxes.

In addition to being a composer, van Wissem runs the Incunabulum label and performs extensively around the world, has worked with improvisor/guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama, sound-sculpturist Maurizio Bianchi, experimentalists Smegma, among others, and has lectured at at Wesleyan universtity, Mills College and Cambridge University on “the liberation of the lute”.

I'm pleased to announce that Zombi member & synthesist Steve Moore will be performing @ OTP on Friday, October 1The Henge proclaimed itself a full-on contemporary synth classic that manages to meld Tangerine Dream's Zeit, Irmin Schmidt & Bruno Spoerri's Toy Planet and Heldon's Allez Teia into an epic thrillride for the senses. As further proof of his nomadic status, he's done remixes for dance acts such as Ursula 1000, and recently released a 12-inch on no bigger a techno bastion than Kompakt. Set the controls for the heart of the sun.

One Thousand Pulses presents: An Evening with RICHARD LAINHART

SATURDAY, MARCH 6

ADMISSIONLOCATION 9 Edward Place, Woodcliff Lake NJ 07677 USA

FOR TIX PURCHASE, DIRECTIONS, & FURTHER INFO:
www.onethousandpulses.com

Well-versed in the varied applications of his beloved Buchla boxes, yet equally agile on numerous synths, keyboards, vibes, and guitars, Richard Lainhart has been reorganizing the topography of tone and texture for over 30 years. Lainhart has performed and worked with John Cage, David Tudor, Steve Reich, Phill Niblock, David Behrman, and many others. His 1987 debut recording, These Last Days, remains an unsung classic of post-academic computer music thanks to its beguiling, animated sequences, charged momentum, and subtle reorganization of electronic and acoustic sounds. Since childhood, Lainhart has been interested in natural processes such as waves, flames and clouds, in harmonics and harmony, and in creative interactions with machines, using them as compositional methods to present sounds and images that are as beautiful as he can make them.

OTP NEWS

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Electric/electronic guitarist Peter Biedermann will be bringing his delay tactics to OTP on Saturday, June 12. Hailing from just northwest of OTP HQ (specifically Butler, NJ), the little-known Biedermann is an accomplished and versatile player, bringing to bear on his hybrid constructs the influence of such illustrious string-drivers as David Torn, Robert Fripp, Steve Tibbetts, and numerous others. Whether solo or accompanied by his ensemble White Light, Biedermann moves between analog and digital regions with a surfeit of ease, forging an (un)jazz that synthesizes the more far-flung aspects of post-rock with contemporary loop-based process systems. Biedermann is cognizant of his chosen tool's limitations as well as its inherent capabilities, and like his forebears, fervently seeks to expound on those limitations. PREVIOUS EVENT UPDATE

Pogus Productions triptych Al Margolis, Tom Hamilton & Jacqueline Martelle circuit-bent their way through all manners of tonal abstraction at their 2/20 performance. Like the most simpatico improviser, Jacqueline's flute playing, intense and imaginative in equal measure, surfed skillfully atop both Al's library of manipulated tones and the army of Barron-esque (as in Forbidden Planet) squalls and blips Hamilton coaxed from his Nord.
