ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: BYOC Kits
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:58:21 pm »
Devi Ever is selling a diy stompbox hardware kit that looks like a huge time saver if you're building something from scratch. My least favorite part of building pedals is wiring up the pots/switches/LEDs/PCB. This thing has a pcb that will line up all the hardware perfectly with the pre drilled enclosure, plus a section for your circuit.

Just in case any of you missed out on the bonus cdr that came with the limited edition version of In Our Hiding Voice, I've decided to make them available again as a stand alone digital release. I think these three tracks deserve to be heard by more than just 50 people!

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Balanced Output to Stereo Input?
« on: November 10, 2011, 05:55:49 pm »
Maybe you guys can help clear up my confusion here. If I'm going from a mono balanced output on a mic preamp into a stereo line input on my recorder, I can't just connect them with a normal stereo cable right? I would end up with a left channel that is out of phase with the right channel, as far as I can tell. Or do I have this all wrong?  ???

The more I look at screen shots, the new patch cords are starting to look much cleaner and easier to follow than the old monochromatic black ones. I'm just curious if that clean look breaks down with a big complicated patch with billions of cords all over the place. Yes, I am a messy patcher  ;D
Besides that, all the new super helpful UI features look GREAT! I just wish they would let us know how this affects Max For Live users.

I'm a little concerned about those noodley patch cords.  :-\

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Re: Re-amping

I'm going to go against the grain and suggest you avoid digital amp simulators. Nothing compares to a nice warm tube amp moving real air in front of a mic. If you're any good with a soldering iron, you can build a really nice reamp box for cheaps. I built the box shown on this forum thread (yeah, just ignore the fact that's called Ultimate Metal Forum... still good info) and it sounds great:
http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/equipment/459195-50-d-i-y-reamp-box.html
Otherwise, I've heard good stuff about this super useful looking box. I think it acts as both a DI box and a reamp, and an effect looper.

Good luck!

Circle looks fun! Wish I had one of those monome arc controllers I could hook up to it.
I'm downloading these as soon as I get home  ;D

Those are really nice Land Titles! I like the textures in the first one.
The best way to post photos is to upload them somewhere like Flickr, and then use the Insert Image button and paste the URL between the img tags. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks Orphax!
I don't think a lack of decaying buildings and signs in The Netherlands is necessarily a bad thing. Even though they are fascinating to explore and photograph, they represent of a community and economy in decline. Like Detroit, as Koda mentioned, where the population shrunk by 25% in only 10 years.
Those photos from The Ruins of Detroit that MX posted are amazing, but depressing!

MX: Those are really nice! What phone/app are you using now?

NKL, Taylor: Thanks! I really want to go back and explore the Southwest more, this last trip was a little rushed. Most of these photos were shot literally off the side of the highway.

Thanks Heasslich!
I'm interested in hearing more about what you wrote. Do you mean that most Europeans imagine these kinds of images when they think of America? We had to go out of our way a little to find some of these places, but most of them are just sitting there right off the side of the highway wedged between modern gas stations and fast food restaurants.

It's been a while since I've posted anything here, but wanted to share some photos from my trip through New Mexico and Texas last week. Tons of gorgeous, rotting, rusting old motel and gas station signs in that area. There are more photos here if you're interested: http://sublamp.com/tagged/photos

This happens occasionally on my duet, but I thought it was only when I use it as an aggregate device with it and my old m-audio sound card. Restarting the computer always seems to fix it.
