COMPUTER MUSIC / radiator - new soundtoys plugin
« on: December 21, 2012, 08:20:02 pm »
i just got the new radiator and really recommend it. can be very subtle or very noisy. saturate in a very nice way, very different from the decapitator though. i had it on a piano loop tonight and that really brought the piano back into the mix without making it to bright or artificially coloured. i also used it in a saturation loop on a send and i was amazed by the tone and colour it could add.

About the release
ʻRecedingʼ was composed from November 2011 to January 2012 using a couple of piano samples recorded in a disused windmill. Those samples were later processed, deconstructed and partially removed from the compositions to become empty shells revealed by the sound world created around them, thus leaving indirect traces of their former existence.
The compositional process behind the EP was informed by various conversations about the concept of rhizome, phase differentiation and deterritorialization. Tones and shapes were often mutated and/or cross-pollinated from one track to another, serving as new points of departures as the EP was growing into its present form.

"The Endless Seasons" is an experimental ambient project by Pascal Savy and Toshikatsu, who worked together on creating music and lacquer incense cases. All tracks have been produced by Pascal Savy, upon conceptual propounding by Toshikatsu. The incense cases have been designed and hand-crafted as a series of four over a year period. This release explores the concept of Japanese seasons within the realm of imagination, and their instrinsic absence of absolutes.

COMPUTER MUSIC / McDSP Analog Channel
« on: July 22, 2010, 08:40:36 am »
Hi,

I would like to know if anybody has any experience with the Analog Channel plugin by McDSP. It's an analog pre-amp/tape emulation that runs on ProTools but soon to be released as an AU plugin, which I'll then be able to use as I don't have ProTools.

I know that people on Gearslutz keep praising it but I have the feeling they work mostly with drums, guitars etc.

I was wondering if anyone had used it for ambient and microsound music.

Thanks

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Acoustic treatment question
« on: May 22, 2010, 02:48:01 pm »
Hello, i am in the process of getting some acoustic panels for my room to treat the side and rear walls at the mirror positions.

I was wondering if it is worth treating the front wall also. My monitors are 3-4 inches away from the wall and 3 feet apart. In theory i could slide a 4 inch-thick foam panel (2x4 feet) behind them. Has anyone  done that before? Would it make any difference?

Thanks.

Press release
Tools manipulated in an old workshop, clocks slowed down, the spinning wheel of a rusty bike, children playing near a church, the sound of the wind in Norfolk, climbing up the stairs in a disused windmill, ghost echoes. Those are some sounds that constitute the atmosphere of The Silent Watcher. Presented in their raw form or heavily processed, they all relate to old memories, often blurred and incomplete; the aural equivalent of a faded polaroid. From field recordings, layers are created, manipulated, taken apart and rebuilt and soon begin to tell a story - a story often buried under droney textures and fragmented melodies and only partially revealed, but more often distorted and reconstructed.

This album has been made over a period of two years, a time period in which the process has slowly taken shape and mutated, often leading to beautiful accidents and unexpected results patiently collated and recycled. It is also the story of a work in progress and a craft being learned, where many compositional methods have been explored.

COMPUTER MUSIC / reverb plugin
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:02:29 am »
Hi, I am looking for an algorhythmic reverb plugin. Atm I am getting ok results  from the native ableton reverb with a lot of tweaking but i'd like to move away from it. An important feature for me would be to be able to distribute sounds from rear to front as distinct layers if that makes sense. I do mostly electronic music so little need for simulating 'real' spaces. Any insight would be grealty appreciated. Thanks.
