STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / small portable mixing desk
« on: April 06, 2012, 05:06:47 am »
didn't know wether i should put this in "synthesizer" board or this one. but here goes;

i'm looking for a small, sturdy, portable mixing desk that travels easily. it needs to have at the very least 4 (mono)jack inputs and possibilites for XLR / RCA as well. most importantly, it has to work well with sends. preferably 2. and especially pre-fader.

right now i have this old yamaha mg10/2 which would have been perfect, though it sends are always distorted. it seems like the sends knobs are way too sensitive, it's practically useless. since i was planning on getting a second mixer anyway, it is of less importance. - if the mixer has good pre-amps i'm twice as happy.

i know i could google all this, but figured that the 12k peeps probably have the best answer. :)

OTHER MUSIC / stores
« on: January 28, 2011, 08:43:15 am »
hello,
i thought there was a thread discussing this, but i can't seem to find it.

i was wondering where everyone gets his records (most often). which are the practical places you end up the most. i guess for many it will be ebay/discogs or the local record store.

i'm probably not the most interesting person to start this thread, because i'm biased because of my first choice:

1st. jj records. parijsstraat 32, leuven, belgium. as i worked there, it's pretty logical for me to order everything through them. i think i get about 90% of my records here. they do have a good selection of indie cd & vinyl, some electronics (always the basic good stuff). some secondhand.

2nd. directly with the artist/label. if i can't get it at JJ records, i order always directly with the artist or the label.

obviously there's the awesome experimedia / norman / boomkat / aquarius / forced exposure etc from this world, but i actually don't end up there that much.

anyone else wants to share?

Hi,
As discussed on the old forum - which gave me plenty good tips on travelling to/in NYC - and our trip is gettin closer..
Any good shows around between the 20th or 27th of march? Or the best (online) places to look...? I'm really anxious to attend a lot of concerts.. :) - or if you're aware of not too miss exhibitions..

SELF PROMOTION / wixel 2009
« on: February 23, 2010, 03:18:40 pm »
hello,

i had this project last year where i made one album each month. the initial fancy artwork editions are sold out, but the 12 discs are now available as lovingly crafted paperbacks. it's cd-r, cardboard, printed and i did my best to make it look good.

styles range from acoustic nylon guitar compositions, to noisy field recordings from norway over indiepop tunes and ambient. (mostly one style per month - i suppose 12k folks would like "february" and "august" the best.)

if you're interested in getting a copy, you can do so here: http://www.wixel.be/2009 - you'll find sound samples & descriptions.

if you want to read someone's opinion on the whole project, you can read the silent ballet's take on it here: http://www.thesilentballet.com/dnn/Home/tabid/36/ctl/Details/mid/384/ItemID/3021/Default.aspx

that's it..
