Yesterday i watched "The Master". Weird but at the same time beautiful movie!

Nice!!! lots of memories...especially with Hammerheart and Twilight of the Gods. But i hardly listen to them anymore...for some reason..

No hardware stuff for me, only plug ins. I have/use a UAD quad loaded with some plug ins, WAVES and some iZOTOPE plug ins and that's it.

Quality hardware stuff are really expensive for example i think that Taylor has a Manley massive passive stereo EQ which is maybe one of the best hardware EQs out there but to tell you the truth i don't find any big difference between the hardware unit and UAD's same plug in.

the best thing you can do is rid yourself of those VSTs. if you're having trouble writing music, adding MORE isn't going to help...

this is absolutely true!!!!


For me GRM tools are really buggy, at least for my system. Do you have Max/MSP or Max for Live? There are so many decent freeze plugins out there for Max or Max4Live

A great tip for mixing a track is to try to hear it in reverse when you're done with it. That way your mind escapes from the harmony and the total procession of the music and you can concentrate more on reverb tails and especially on dynamics (compressors, limiters etc.) It sounds a little odd i know but it works for certain parts.

Also another great tip for improving stereo sources. If, for example, you have record some acoustic guitars try with an EQ to cut everything below 300-400 Hz to get rid of noises from the microphones or from the studio and then pan hard left and hard right. You will notice immediately that your source will spread much wider in the stereo image.

Well basically there are two types of mics..dynamic and condenser (there are also ribbon mics and piezo mics but lets not talk about that) obviously those two types of microphones sound totally different but no one can say that condenser mics are better that dynamic, although dynamic microphones tend to compress the sound more.
If you want to record a choir (or something similar) you will need three microphones (condenser ones for sure) and you must apply a certain stereo technique which i can mail you in more detail if you are interested. Also you can find one figure of 8 microphone and place 2 people on one side of the mic and the other 3 on the other side, like they used to record musicians in the 60's. But with this technique you have to route the signal in a second channel and reverse the phase.
Don't try to record those voices in different positions in the room because you will get really nasty phase problems especially in a not acoustically treated room.
If you want i can mail you a list of microphones to check out. cheap or expensive..

Do you want to capture the ambience of the room ? Because you will need different mic placement for that one.

I assume water is somewhat a sound barrier

That's the bad thing about max/msp. You find your self in a place where you have stopped focusing on music. With the Nord Modular it's totally different despite confusion and frustration you never stop making music. Although i have to say that max/msp really helped me to understand how certain things work.

Nord Wave is a really good synth but it is really expensive for me right now, i think it costs 2.000 euros. Actually i have played with it but i don't think that Nord Wave and G2 share much, i find the sound different. The Nord Wave has a cleaner sound i guess. The previous owner of my Nord G2 told me that it shares the same engine with Nord Lead 3.

I have Polr and it's a great release. I guessed that if Taylor had ever used Nord Modular it would be in that record.
