SELF PROMOTION / Siren Audio Software - The Lorelei Suite
« on: August 24, 2011, 03:02:45 pm »
Hello All,

After a few teething problems on Windows my Max/MSP applications are on sale.

http://www.sirenaudio.co.uk/ - On the site you can download a demo copy of each application for Mac or Windows. There's also videos, sound examples, and the user guides.

There should be a review coming out in Future Music magazine soon which I'm pretty pleased about. Anyway, feel free to try the demos or ask me any questions you have about the applications.

I often use them in my own compositions. The drone/sample mangling in the link below was made with the Feedback and Sampler applications respectively with some editing/post production in Cubase.

Thanks for reading :)

Mike

Hello Everyone,

Software is currently on sale, I haven't really told many people about it yet because unfortunately I have a problem with the protection scheme on Windows. For the moment it is Mac only but this should be fixed in the next couple of weeks.

If this should be in self promotion I'll stick the link in there :)

Thanks,

Mike

Your demonstration looks very nice.

Here is the small demonstration of looper that I'm making in max/msp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDg2LwbX2eM

Best.

I noticed that on the forum too. Your software looks great :D

Just a heads up for everyone, I've finished my MA and at the moment I'm spending all my time getting things ready to sell online.

If you're interested in testing the software before release, please email me at: machinesleet4 (at) gmail.com

A little rundown of the software if you're interested...

1. Feedback -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKn_vNscNDU

The concept of this is to have feedback regulated by a compressor. The software can work a lot like a looper, and is also really useful for creating drones, or even just playing about with the input effects / granular playback. The times for each of the 20 delays can be set manually, or in relation to a global BPM.

2. Generative - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsy716A23vU

Discussed quite a lot already in this thread :). I've added some variation controls to the user input, so the playheads aren't so static. I've also improved the CPU usage by a huge amount! Who knew how expensive waveform~ was? Basically it's automatic granular playback of a file, based upon segments defined by amplitude in the analysed audio.

3. Sampler - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hOV5YunzO8

I'm actually trying to think of a decent name for this. I had called it Akufen for my uni work, as it's inspired by his cut-up style. The idea behind this software is to create random samples from one or a number of audio files. A folder can be loaded and each of the 16 voices 'randomised'. This creates a new start point for the sample. Optionally there are settings to randomise the filter settings, length of the sample, pitch of the sample (by equal tempered of random), the panning, whether the envelope is on or off, if the file loops, and the file name if a folder is loaded. Once a usable sample is found it can be excluded from the randomisation process. Presets can be saved which will load all files and settings, and there is also a 'control' input, which allows you to bash some pads if you want to trigger samples that way (normally triggered by MIDI from a DAW).

Cheers,

Mike

Here's a little demo of something I made towards the start of the year. Plenty of info in the description.

I too have the nanoKontrol, great little bit of kit for getting MIDI in.

Hi everyone,

I should be set up to sell by the end of the year, maybe in time for Christmas!

Anyway, made this little patch for the nano control, 9 variable size sine oscillators with panning. The frequencies are generated from random noise, and the pretty colours are generated by me.

This is just the display at the moment and I haven't really thought about the UI.

Oh yes! Me! Me! I'm interested!  ;D
Any possibility of a Max for Live version?

What do you think of these new max for live devices? Can you see yourself buying/using them? http://tiny.cc/lwrxy

I'm a bit hesitant to get in to M4L, because I'm not sure I'd want to go against the idea of being able to edit effects. So then you're selling your patch. What's to stop it being shared around? morals?

so do you really need to "push" to get the engine into a more "excited" state?  however you would "push" is kinda abstract but do you get my meaning?

Yes in a way, the chances of the state going to 6 rather than 1 are less, but they become greater the further away the state is from 1, if that makes sense. Its all actually very simple probability although I did decide to get the random value from noise~ in order to try and exert more control than using the random object. By control, I mean less of it! There's a guy on the max forum that is quite well read on random numbers and the like, my approximation is probably inferior to his objects but in reality there will be little difference.

whenever I talk about my software, I'm very open about it (I FINALLY ported something from Reaktor to Max, which is about 4 years in waiting) - the use of it all depends on the users musicality...their input material, and their ability to make the one right choice to get great results.

Sounds great, I had an inkling there were some tech heads on here. Personally the reason I'm making these programs in the first place is to try and cut down the time it takes to generate specific material. In the case of the first two pieces, drones loops and textures seem to have come to the fore. This also might be because a lot of the more rhythmic approaches I try in Max seem to fall short of my hopes.

so, basically, you've been using a larger, more robust version of this for yr own gear?

No, its a completely different idea behind the patch.
