I've often wondered if all this free music that get's downloaded actually get's listened to.

I can go one better......a good deal of music we actually purchase with our hard earned dollars doesn't get listened to all that much either.  We all have a flavor of the moment and old reliable favorites that never fail, but I believe there is portion of everybody's collection that gets neglected.

THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Re: round table discussion

where do we go from here?

Why are we to assume there is somewhere to go?  Is it possible everything has been done?  Before you answer, consider this......vinyl and cassette releases are making huge comebacks.  Many independent websites and artist are thriving because of them.

I once read only ten percent of the music ever recorded has been released on CD.  The other 90% has been heard by a very few.  A modern day artist not having his work heard is nothing new, .but websites like 12k are doing their part to help change this......one member at a time.

ART / Re: What do you like to see in terms of art on an album cover?

Back in 2007, Andrew Liles released his "Black" series.  One CD per month for the entire year, each with different yet simliar art:  http://www.blrrecords.com/shop.php?art=Liles%2C+Andrew

I love the theme of the hands making the figures......the sounds on the inside equally as enjoyable.

I'm not a subscriber, but The Wire has always been good to this reader.  A weekly must read for me is Brainwashed.com......and it's FREE!

OTHER MUSIC / Re: Merbow - Merzbient

A couple times a year, Important Records has big blow outs (44 cd's for $44).  I took advantage last year and picked up close to twenty Merbow titles.  No - it's not the same as the box set from above......but it's a nice cheap way to get your MERZZZZ on!
