Can anyone recommend a good book on mixing?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

oldest piece of software?
hard to say, but as soundhack is turning 22 this year, I think that's it.

oldest working computer/OS?
ibook from around 2001-02, OS 10.2
hardly use it, but there are a few things on there, that I for different reasons never upgraded on my main laptop.

oldest piece of (electronic) hardware?
first generation mbox also from 2001

oldest musical instrument?
my upright bass from Germany, ca 1880.

COMPUTER MUSIC / recommend audio interface - what's your favorite?
« on: January 04, 2011, 03:37:30 am »
Since I started using computers in the process of musicmaking, I've been using a digidesign mbox (the original model).
It feels like it's about time for an upgrade and I'm curious what other peeps are using.

At the moment I don't really need more than 2 in/outs.
I need to record acoustic instruments and good quality recordings (soundwise, rest is up to me I guess)are needed.
ProTools compability would be nice, but obviously limits the options.
As I'm really tired of paying for every other upgrade of the software, I might switch to another application for mixing.

Any thought or suggestions would be much appreciated!

THE FUTURE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS / Re: CDs are dead (almost)
« on: November 23, 2010, 04:17:18 am »
i've been (silently) following this thread. it's obviously a very complex future we as musicians/artists/label owners etc are facing and i really appreciate everyones thought on this.

just a quick answer to rupske regarding the difference between borrowing albums from the library and illegally dowloading them. i guess the national legislations varies, but here in denmark there's a big difference between the two, as the artist gets "compensated" financially each year for the copies sold to libraries.

SELF PROMOTION / P Jørgensen - Soundtrack_Remix up for pre-order
« on: August 27, 2010, 05:02:00 am »
Hi All

Wanted to let you know that my new doublealbum entitled Soundtrack_Remix will be released by the lovely Under the Spire Recordings on september the 22nd, but is allready now available for pre-orders.
http://www.underthespire.co.uk/releases-buy/

I spent a great deal of last year composing the score for the movie "Kim" - a story about danish WWII freedom fighter Kim Malthe-Bruun directed by Morten Meldgaard.
On the first of the two discs nineteen tracks originally produced for the movie has been reedited and remixed to fit the album format. A Composers Cut if you will.
A mixture of piano pieces, strings, atmospheric electronic minimalism and crystalline tones easily makes this my most versatile album to date.

For the second disc I handed all the audio material for the soundtrack to ten of my favorite current artists and asked them to explore these sounds further.
I was extremely pleased that they accepted and am very proud of the end result.
To me, everyones unique sound clearly comes through on these ten remixes while still making for a cohesive whole. The ten artists are:
Will Long, Pawn, Rameses III, Chris Herbert, Machinefabriek, Peter Broderick, Seasons (pre-din), Jasper TX, Greg Davis and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.

Soundtrack_Remix has allready been made Album Of The Week at Fluid Radio, where you can also read a full review of the Remix disc.
http://www.fluid-radio.co.uk/2010/08/peter-jorgenson-the-remixes/

Mastered on Isle of Skye by a personal mastering hero of mine Denis Blackham the album comes in a 6-panel package designed by Meldgaard & Meldgaard and printed by Stumptown.
Included is also a booklet essay written by "Kim" director Morten Meldgaard.

The album has just been made available for pre-order over at the Spire website and as it's a limited edition release, I suggest you act now if interested.
