OTHER MUSIC / Any electroacoustic, acousmatic composers?
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:08:25 am »
Hi! First of all I want to wish good luck and a happy and creative new year to everybody.

Second, I wonder if some of you guys know about electroacoustic, acousmatic, etc. composers using Ableton Live and other softwares as a main tool for their work. Do you know any composers in the line of Ligeti, Riley, Penderecki, Reich, etc. using modern software tools? I have been researching on my own and haven't been very successful... Cheers!

SELF PROMOTION / ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ: Two Random Based Soundscpes
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:19:22 pm »
I have posted two new glitching, random, ambient soundscapes at my sonic blog. http://www.quiltsuns.blogspot.com
These pieces were generated as the results of 8 random glitch generators. The sonic results depend on the audio files you feed them. So, every time you play with them, the soundscape is different in texture, rhythm and density.
I hope you have the time to enjoy them. If you like the stuff and are intrigued by my approach, please ask any question you may have. Cheers!

An interesting topic came up in the "Chance and random composing tools" thread:

Old music softwares running in old computers, laptops, powerbooks, etc.

So, here you have a few interesting questions you may want to answer (you can add your own questions too):

- What is the oldest piece of software that you are still using?
- What is the oldest working computer/OS that you have?
- What is the oldest piece of (electronic) hardware you have?
- What is the oldest musical instrument (any kind) you may have?

In my case, my oldest computer/OS is a PC running Windows XP. Not a big deal, I know, but I have a guitar from my grandgrandma from 1836. It looks like crap, has a big hole in one side and sounds so bad, I am sure John Cage would had offered big money if he were still alive (God bless him). ;-)
Have a nice weekend guys!

I just created a new section in my sonic blog for the most crazy and untamed material: noises, repetition, soundscapes and looooong pieces. Feedback and contributions accepted ;-)

Since we have been talking about the use of random and chance tools for making music in the STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES section, here I include a link to the Generators section of my sonic blog. Tell me what do you think about them: do you find them expressive, interesting, death boring...?

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Chance and random composing tools

I would like to know if there are many of you guys using random generating tools to make your songs. I am not talking so much about techniques you may have invented yourself such as specific plugins like the "Random" in Ableton Live or the more sophisticated "Thesys" from Sugar Bytes http://www.sugar-bytes.com/content/products/Thesys/index.php?lang=en
What are you experiences?

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / On ebows and waterdrops
« on: January 18, 2011, 10:38:02 am »
I rather title this post: What do have in common water drops from a shower and an ebow alone, on top of an acoustic guitar... in the next room... with the door closed??? Too long for a title, isn't it?

Well, anyway. The answer is of course: A microphone! Check the results at

http://quiltsuns.blogspot.com/2010/07/turbulences-16.html

Can you tell what should you do with the same elements in time and space?
