SYNTHESIZERS + SOUND-MAKING HARDWARE / Re: Ciat-Lonbarde Coco...
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:38:34 am »
Thanks for the complement Taylor... appreciate it...

Its basically two digital delays with infinite loop options...You can run one into the other or run them in parallel... You have control of pitch, speed and also location within the sample and direction... You can also have sound on sound...It also has 5 VCO's that you can use to modulate the delays (they can also cross modulate between them as well)... everything has modular inputs and outputs so you can not only patch and modulate between things (like a modular) but also interface with external sources...

Here is the manual but in PeterB fashion its a little esoteric...

It does look amazing... I haven't owned a Sidrassi either but he's just released the updated version of the Tetrazzi as well called the Tetrax Organ...

Its funny when I first saw them I sort of dismissed it because of the appearance (quite ignorant of me) but when I got the Coco I was amazed by the build quality and sound... The circuit boards themselves are works of art...

I picked up one of his (PeterB) older instruments (Cocolase) a few months back but sold it to get a CocoQuantus and if you haven't had a chance to play on one they are quite amazing! Its two digital delays/looper with VCO's for modulating different settings of the delays... Very Lofi and warm sounding... If you have a chance check it out... He also makes an incredible drum machine/synth called the PlumButter...

This is a track I did with the Cocolase so you can get an idea of how it sounds...

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: New pedal!...
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:08:07 am »
The guy who builds them is on the Muffwiggler forum (highly recommended forum for any synth/modular/gear related things)... He posted that it is still in the bata stage but he's hoping to have it ready before the end of the year...

He already has quite the list over there as far as interest goes... and he also has a few more devices that look amazing...

It seems to be a big brother to the Freeze pedal? But not much has been leaked out as of yet...

Its funny I keep seeing a link to someone who made one for Mac via Max but all the links are broken  ??? I was hoping someone out there had downloaded it and I could grab it...

STUDIO + RECORDING TECHNIQUES / Re: Starting off with Reel to Reel
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:32:32 pm »
There are a bunch of things to watch out for buying them (second hand)... I'll try to dig up some links but some things to watch out for are...

Tape speed ( depending on if quality recording is your thing or not )
How many channels
How good are the pre's ( tube vs solid state )
Home vs pro audio
Tape heads ( this one is very important since some are impossible to replace )
Belts - Are they worn out or dried out ( again finding replacements can be tricky )

Its an amazing way to work but quite hard and labor intensive if your used to DAW's but it all depends on how "live" or lofi you want to be...

ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC / Re: Anyone seen this from EHX

I agree but I'm still wondering how it would react to sampled voices, percussion, or even synths...

Its a Sitar pedal but for drone type stuff its soooo much more...

Cut and paste from the website...

"Transform your electric guitar into a sitar
Lead sitar voice tracks your notes polyphonically with a wide range of tonal possibilities
Selectable decay speed for the Lead voice
Sympathetic string drone simulation with a wide tonal range
Selectable keys and scales including major, minor and exotic provided for the Sympathetic strings
Create custom Sympathetic string scales from your guitar
Ability to choose the Sympathetic key by playing a note on your guitar
Modulation adds movement to the sympathetic strings
Bend the pitch of your Lead voice notes using an optional expression pedal
Control the volume of the Sympathetic drone using an optional expression pedal
Separate Main Output for all voices plus a secondary Sympathetic Only Output
Save and recall 9 presets
9 Volt power supply provided"

SYNTHESIZERS + SOUND-MAKING HARDWARE / Re: Modular synthesis
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:05:12 am »
I think a lot of people forget about multi tracking with modulars ( unless you a have a HUGE system )...Most of the vids on youtube seem to be of one patch ( but I agree with Taylor there is a lot of "bug music" )... Most of my own stuff is done with a modular ( Serge or Dotcom ) its heavily multi tracked and processed. I find I work well starting to program a sound and I'm not limited to the restrictions a hardwired synth can impose...

I also see my whole studio as one big modular everything runs in and out of everything else, the only problem is to know when to stop...I also learned early on to press record no matter what because most of the time you won't be able to capture the same movements in the sounds...

Looks like its inspired by the Buchla Music Easel...

The interface looks amazing!... I might have to give this a try...
